Bell & Associates, Inc. has been engaged to find our client’s next Chief Financial Officer. Our client is a provider of digital marketing services, including organic, paid, and web solutions, primarily serving clients in the self-storage, home services, multi-family, and senior living industries. They specialize in helping clients build and maintain a strong local digital presence through search engine optimization, local listing optimization (e.g. Google Maps), content creation, paid media, and website development.
The CFO will work closely with the senior management team to more fully integrate the financial function with operations and sales to ensure key financial metrics are being used to drive the correct operating decisions. As a key member of the senior management team, the CFO will assume a strategic role in the overall growth and management of the company. The CFO will have primary responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility for finance, forecasting, treasury management, acquisition integration, contract analysis, lender relationships, and reporting to the board.
Cultural fit is critical. The CFO must be an active listener, lead by example, and exhibit a collaborative, team-oriented leadership style. This individual must be articulate and possess outstanding interpersonal skills. The CFO will report to the Chief Executive Officer, with regular interaction with the Board and private equity investors.
Responsibilities
- Partner with senior leadership, operations and other executives, providing information necessary to drive decision-making.
- Develop clearly articulated, short-term and long-term financial plans and strategies with specific, measurable benchmarks supporting the growth plans of the company.
- Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the Company by way of various systems, such as labor management, that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the business.
- Drive financial reporting and forecasting processes, ensuring timely and insightful delivery of key performance indicators (cash, revenue trends, margin analysis) to the board, investors, and lenders
- Produce monthly and quarterly financials along with bank certifications.
- Act as power user of all Company systems, accounting software, and technology to provide executives, managers and operators with timely metrics and accounting.
- Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the Company, e.g., evaluation of potential partnerships, contracts, customer pricing, etc.
- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place, ensure compliance with GAAP, as well as applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws, and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Estimate tax liability and tax distributions on a quarterly basis and ensure taxes are being paid correctly and promptly.
- Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile.
- Play a key role in strategic planning by providing thought leadership on commercial opportunities and industry trends.
- Participate in update meetings with investors to address historical and forecasted financial performance.
- Manage the treasury function.
- Oversee annual audit.
- Ensure the Company complies with employee, tax, safety, technology, and insurance governance standards set forth by the CEO and board of directors.
- Effectively lead, develop and manage direct staff.
- Oversee insurance coverage for the company.
- Oversee the company's progress toward its revenue and profitability goals and advising as necessary.
- Manage all payroll and tax activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field. Master’s degree strongly encouraged.
- CPA and/or Public Accounting experience is a plus.
- Previous stand-alone, divisional CFO, senior controller, or VP Finance experience.
- Experience in business services is strongly preferred.
- 10 - 15+ years of finance/accounting experience with at least three years as a senior level finance role.
- Prior experience working in sponsor-backed or leveraged environments is preferred.
- Prior experience with acquisition integration is a plus.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills both oral and written; a boardroom presence and ability to communicate effectively with external constituents.
- Occasional travel will be required.
