Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced NBFC finance professional with 15-20 years of deep BFSI domain expertise to support the establishment and operationalization of a new Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) in India. This is a fractional engagement that begins with regulatory setup and financial modelling for the RBI license application and evolves into an ongoing advisory and compliance role. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with RBI applications, NBFC financial planning, regulatory reporting, and investor-facing financial projections. The role has the potential to grow into a Fractional CFO position as the NBFC scales.
Key Responsibilities
RBI Application & Regulatory Compliance
- Review, validate, and refine the financial model and business plan prepared for the RBI license application
- Ensure the business plan meets all RBI documentation requirements, including mandatory financial ratios such as asset cover, SLDR, leverage ratios, and capital adequacy norms
- Provide expert, judgement-based inputs on appropriate financial benchmarks and assumptions for the RBI submission (e.g., conservative AUM growth projections, risk parameters)
- Guide the end-to-end RBI license application process from a financial and compliance standpoint
- Manage ongoing quarterly and periodic regulatory reporting to the RBI post-license approval
Financial Planning & Projections
- Build and validate five-year financial projections for the NBFC across multiple scenarios:
- RBI Plan: Conservative projections aligned with regulatory expectations to avoid compliance risk
- Investor Plan: Growth-oriented projections showcasing the business opportunity for equity fundraising
- Bank Funding Plan: Projections focused on security, serviceability, and asset cover ratios to support debt fundraising from banks
- Equity Fundraising Plan: Projections tailored for equity investors highlighting scalability and returns
- Develop detailed budget frameworks for the NBFC launch covering team costs, office setup, technology infrastructure, and operational expenditure
- Validate existing budget assumptions and recommend realistic cost benchmarks based on current market salary levels and operational norms
- Translate budget and cost assumptions into comprehensive P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow projections
Ongoing Finance Advisory & Operations Support
- Act as a Fractional CFO, providing strategic financial oversight and guidance to the NBFC's internal management team
- Collaborate with the internal analyst/associate team to set up financial operations, MIS, and reporting frameworks
- Design and deliver monthly and daily financial reports with actionable insights on disbursements, collections, portfolio quality, and key operational metrics
- Support bank funding proposals by preparing and presenting financial projections and compliance documentation to prospective lenders
- Advise on financial strategy, capital structuring, and cost optimization as the NBFC scales operations
Candidate Profile
- Deep domain expertise in BFSI, specifically in NBFC finance operations, lending models, and regulatory frameworks
- Proven experience with RBI license applications and regulatory compliance for NBFCs
- Strong understanding of current RBI guidelines, circulars, and compliance requirements for NBFCs
- Ability to exercise sound financial judgement on leverage ratios, asset cover norms, and growth assumptions
- Experience in building multi-scenario financial models for regulators, investors, and banking partners
- Strategic thinker who can operate at both a hands-on execution level and a senior advisory capacity
- Excellent communication skills to interface with senior leadership, investors, and banking counterparts
- Comfortable working in a fractional/part-time engagement model with a startup-oriented organisation
Technical Skills (Mandatory)
- Expert-level proficiency in financial modelling in Microsoft Excel (scenario analysis, sensitivity testing, ratio-based models)
- Strong knowledge of NBFC financial metrics: AUM growth modelling, NPA provisioning, asset-liability management, capital adequacy
- Experience in preparing RBI submission documents, quarterly regulatory reports, and compliance filings
- Familiarity with NBFC chart of accounts, fund flow structures, and bank borrowing frameworks
- Working knowledge of financial reporting tools and MIS dashboards is a Chartered Accountant (CA) - Strongly Preferred
- B.Com / M.Com / MBA (Finance) with relevant NBFC experience will also be considered
- 15-20 years of progressive experience in NBFC finance, financial planning, or CFO-level roles within BFSI (Mandatory)
- Prior experience handling RBI license applications and ongoing regulatory compliance (Mandatory)
- Experience in consulting, advisory, or fractional CFO engagements is a plus
