Prime Recruitment is partnering with a well established privately owned civil construction business seeking a commercially astute Chief Financial Officer to report directly to the CEO and play a critical role in strengthening financial discipline, commercial performance, and future growth strategy across the business. This is a highly influential executive appointment requiring far more than technical finance leadership.
Projects typically range from $10mil to $40mil, and the role requires strong oversight across project cost control, WIP, forecasting, reporting, contract administration, variations, claims, payment cycles and commercial accountability across both upstream and downstream project activity. The successful candidate will bring genuine construction sector depth, with a clear understanding of how project cost environments are established, monitored, challenged and improved across live project delivery.
The Opportunity
Reporting as the CEO’s primary financial lead, this role acts as the key commercial partner to the executive team and will hold ultimate responsibility for financial oversight across civil construction operations. You will work closely with senior operational leaders to strengthen reporting maturity, improve cost control discipline, support project decision making and drive a clear commercial framework across the business. This is a hands on role where visibility, communication and engagement across operations are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all core finance functions including financial control, reporting, treasury, tax, compliance and audit
- Drive disciplined project cost management across all live construction projects
- Oversee forecasting, budgeting, WIP, cash flow and profitability performance
- Provide commercial oversight across contracts, claims, variations and financial risk
- Support capital strategy, debt structuring and broader financial planning
- Partner closely with operational leaders to improve project financial accountability
- Lead systems improvement, reporting maturity and internal financial frameworks
- Mentor and lead a small support team across finance and administration
- Provide strategic commercial insight to support business growth and expansion
About You
- Proven CFO or senior commercial finance leadership experience within construction
- Recent Tier 1 or Tier 2 construction exposure highly regarded
- Strong understanding of project based financial control and construction commercial behaviours
- Ability to confidently challenge, influence and support operational leaders
- Highly commercial, energetic and hands-on in approach
- Strong communication capability with executive presence
- CPA / CA qualified or equivalent
