Chief Financial Officer (Confidential)
A private equity–backed, middle-market custom fabrication and installation company is seeking its first Chief Financial Officer. The business has operated for more than 45 years and serves residential and commercial customers across the Southeast.
The company employs 200+ people and operates over 85,000 square feet of manufacturing across two Southeastern facilities. Annual revenue is approximately $70–75M with $6–7M of EBITDA. The business is entering a period of professionalization and value creation in preparation for a potential exit within the next 24 months.
Position Summary
This is the first true CFO role for the company. The position serves as the senior leader for Accounting and Finance and a strategic partner to the CEO and private equity ownership.
The CFO will build scalable financial infrastructure, improve visibility and accuracy around WIP and percentage-of-completion accounting, and lead an upcoming ERP and systems implementation.
This role is well suited for either:
- A senior Controller ready to step into a CFO role, or
- A proven middle-market CFO with construction, fabrication, or project-based experience
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and ownership group on operational, strategic, and capital allocation decisions
- Prepare and present financial materials for board meetings and leadership reviews
- Oversee accounting and finance functions including GL, AP/AR, payroll, job costing, and monthly close
- Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
- Lead improvements in WIP scheduling and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Strengthen internal controls in preparation for exit
- Deliver analytics on job profitability, margins, cash flow, utilization, and working capital
- Develop dashboards, KPIs, and management reporting
- Partner with operations on pricing discipline, cost controls, and execution insights
- Lead ERP evaluation and implementation (currently QuickBooks and Excel)
- Lead and develop a lean Accounting and Finance team (3–4 direct reports)
- Manage banking relationships, lender reporting, and covenant compliance
- Support diligence, QoE, M&A integration, and exit preparation
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Significant experience with WIP and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Prior experience in construction, fabrication, or project-based services
- Experience supporting businesses with $50M+ in revenue
- Strong Excel and financial modeling skills
Preferred:
- CPA strongly preferred, MBA a plus
- Prior CFO or senior Controller experience
- Experience in a private equity–backed environment
- ERP implementation experience
