What You Will Be Doing
You will own the financial strategy and operations for Rock Island, ensuring the company’s profitability, sustainability, and long-term growth. You will partner closely with leadership across engineering, operations, network solutions, and customer service to align financial goals with business objectives. You will be a key driver in identifying opportunities for revenue growth, cost optimization, and capital efficiency, while maintaining compliance and fiscal discipline.
You will report directly to the EVP and serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team and Board of Directors. This is primarily an on-site role, 3-4 full days per week, located in the San Juan Islands, WA.
You Will:
- Lead all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Develop and execute strategies to drive profitability and optimize operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial alignment with business priorities.
- Oversee accounting, treasury, and compliance functions with precision and integrity.
- Provide clear, actionable insights to guide decision-making at the executive and board level.
- Manage relationships with banks, investors, auditors, and other financial stakeholders.
- Champion a team and culture of accountability, transparency, and results-driven performance.
- Oversee grant accounting, compliance, and reporting requirements, and collaborate with operational teams to guarantee precise financial tracking.
You Are:
- A strategic financial leader with a proven track record of driving profitability in a competitive, service-based industry.
- Skilled at translating complex financial data into clear, actionable strategies that accelerate growth and strengthen operational performance.
- Comfortable owning the numbers — from high-level forecasting to detailed analysis — and holding yourself and others accountable for results.
- A collaborative partner who thrives in cross-functional environments, building trust and alignment with engineering, operations, sales, and customer service teams.
- Experienced in capital planning, managing relationships with banks, investors, and regulatory bodies.
- Resilient and resourceful, able to navigate the unique challenges of operating in a geographically dispersed, infrastructure-heavy business.
- Committed to transparency, fiscal discipline, and delivering hard truths when necessary to protect the company’s long-term health.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field.
- MBA and/or professional certification (CPA/CMA/Qualified Accounting certificate) are strongly preferred.
- Up to 7+ years of relevant work experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
- 5+ years of people management experience
- Demonstrates any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
