Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and drive our organization’s fiscal health and growth. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will oversee all financial activities, including accounting, budgeting, financial planning, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Job Summary
- Directs the organization's financial planning and accounting practices as well as its relationship with lending institutions, shareholders, and the financial community. Serves as a strategic partner to the CEO, moving beyond traditional accounting to manage project-based finances, risk, and cash flow.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Develops long-term financial plans, budgeting, and forecasting that align with the company's growth goals and project pipeline.
- Oversees precise cost tracking (labor, materials, equipment) for every project to maintain profitability.
- Manages complex payment cycles, including retainage, progress billing, and subcontractor payments, ensuring sufficient operating cash.
- Identifies and mitigates financial risks unique to construction (e.g., contract disputes, material price volatility, safety hazards).
- Manages relationships with sureties and banks, preparing WIP (Work-in-Progress) reports.
- Implements and upgrades software to automate accounting and improve data accuracy.
- Mentors and manages the accounting team, including payroll and AP/AR staff.
- Oversees and directs budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, long range forecasting, and insurance activities for the organization.
- Appraises the organization's financial position and issues periodic reports on organization's financial stability and growth.
- Oversees and directs the preparation of the company's annual report.
- Analyzes operational issues impacting the organization and determines the financial impact.
Job Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive financial experience, with at least 5 years specifically in the construction industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; MBA or CPA preferred.
- Deep knowledge of Job Cost accounting, Percentage of Completion accounting, and WIP reporting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and the ability to collaborate with non-financial staff (project managers, field crews).
