Position Overview
Hospice of South Texas is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as the senior financial leader of the organization. This executive role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and guiding long-term financial strategy to support our mission and growth.
The CFO works closely with the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer billing and reimbursement requirements
- Oversee revenue cycle performance, including AR, billing accuracy, and reimbursement timelines
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes and prepare financial statements for leadership and board review
- Direct and coordinate external audits (CMS, Medicaid, TPE, RAC, UPIC) and implement corrective actions
- Maintain and oversee cost reports, tax filings, and regulatory submissions
- Provide financial analysis for employee benefits planning and renewals
- Support financial strategy including reserves, investments, and cost containment initiatives
- Collaborate with CEO and serve as liaison to the Board Finance Committee
- Participate in strategic planning, risk management, and emergency preparedness efforts
- Supervise finance team functions including AP/AR, payroll, and general ledger
- Serve as point of contact for auditors, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies
- Oversee financial systems and support optimization of EHR and accounting platforms
- Act as 401(k) Plan Administrator, ensuring fiduciary compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial and personnel records
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required)
- CPA preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Prior experience in healthcare or non-profit organizations strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Medicare/Medicaid billing
- CMS audits and compliance
- Revenue cycle optimization

- Reliable transportation and auto liability insurance
- Ability to travel locally as needed
Work Environment & Expectations
