We are looking for an experienced interim Chief Financial Officer to provide steady financial leadership for a nonprofit organization in the greater Butler, Pennsylvania area. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a senior finance executive who can quickly establish direction, support organizational decision-making, and maintain strong fiscal discipline during a period of transition. The role combines strategic guidance with day-to-day oversight of accounting, compliance, reporting, and team leadership in a mission-focused environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the organization’s financial strategy and oversee core fiscal operations to support stability and informed decision-making.
• Direct daily accounting activities, including general ledger oversight, month-end close, and the accuracy of financial records.
• Ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, regulatory obligations, internal control practices, and audit-ready documentation.
• Guide the preparation of financial statements, budget tracking, cash flow analysis, annual forecasts, and operating budget management.
• Advise executive leadership on financial risks, funding considerations, and opportunities to strengthen long-term performance.
• Oversee grant accounting and grant administration processes, including financial monitoring for federally funded programs when applicable.
• Review key filings and reporting requirements, including Form 990 and other nonprofit-related financial submissions.
• Manage and develop direct reports while providing leadership support across the broader finance and accounting team.
• Help maintain continuity through organizational change by reinforcing sound processes and dependable financial governance.
• Active CPA designation is required.
• Prior experience in nonprofit finance or accounting is required.
• Demonstrated success in a senior financial leadership role such as Controller, Finance Director, or Chief Financial Officer.
• Strong command of nonprofit financial reporting, compliance standards, budgeting, and internal controls.
• Experience with cash flow management, annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial statement oversight.
• Knowledge of grant accounting, federal grant financial administration, and related reporting expectations.
• Proven ability to lead teams, build credibility quickly, and contribute effectively in an interim leadership capacity.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial insights clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
