Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key executive within the K’ómoks Economic Development Corporation (KEDC), responsible for ensuring long-term financial sustainability and supporting K’ómoks First Nation’s vision for economic self-determination. The CFO leads financial strategy, strengthens internal systems, and ensures transparent and culturally aligned governance across all KEDC enterprises. The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The CFO is responsible for strengthening financial stewardship, improving efficiencies and financial processes, and supporting long-term prosperity for the K’ómoks First Nation. A central focus of the role is supporting growth initiatives, including new business development, acquisitions, partnerships, and expansion of KEDC’s economic portfolio. The CFO provides the analytical, financial, and strategic insight needed to evaluate and advance growth opportunities that deliver strong returns and benefit the K’ómoks community for generations. This role plays a central part in advancing growth initiatives, leading acquisition and investment analysis, and ensuring KEDC’s expanding portfolio is financially sound, scalable, and aligned with K’ómoks values and community priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Financial & Growth Leadership
- Develop and implement KEDC’s financial strategy to support sustainable growth, diversification, and long-term prosperity for the K’ómoks First Nation.
- Work closely with the CEO and Board to identify, assess, and prioritize growth initiatives across current and emerging sectors.
- Provide high-level insights on financial performance, risks, trends, and opportunities to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure growth decisions integrate community values, environmental stewardship, and intergenerational benefit.
- Financial Operations & Systems Enhancement
- Lead all financial operations across KEDC and subsidiaries, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, accounting, payroll, and treasury functions.
- Modernize financial systems, reporting processes, and technology tools to support a growing multi-entity corporate structure.
- Strengthen internal controls, governance processes, and operational efficiency to enable scalable growth.
- Develop financial policies and procedures grounded in transparency, accountability, and K’ómoks values.
- Growth Initiatives, Acquisitions & Investment Analysis
- Lead analysis for growth opportunities including acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and new business development.
- Conduct financial modelling, valuation, risk assessment, scenario planning, and cost-benefit analysis for all growth-related projects.
- Provide due diligence oversight for potential acquisitions or expansions, ensuring viability and alignment with K’ómoks economic priorities.
- Collaborate with legal, sector experts, and external advisors to assess commercial, operational, and financial fit.
- Present clear, evidence‑based recommendations to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Chief & Council.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Deliver timely, accurate, and transparent financial statements and reports to the CEO, Board, auditors, lenders, and K’ómoks governing bodies.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and funding obligations.
- Support subsidiary governance with consistent performance tracking and reporting systems.
- Lead annual audit processes and oversee continuous improvements in compliance and accuracy.
- Risk Management & Governance
- Develop and oversee enterprise risk management linked to growth, investment, and operational expansion.
- Maintain adequate insurance coverage and protect corporate assets across all KEDC subsidiaries.
- Support governance bodies by providing long-term planning, scenario analysis, and strategic financial insight.
- Leadership, Partnerships & Community Alignment
- Lead and mentor the finance team, promoting professional development, operational excellence, and a culture of accountability.
- Build strong internal and external relationships, including with K’ómoks First Nation leadership, community members, partners, and business stakeholders.
- Ensure financial processes and business decisions honour K’ómoks values, cultural principles, and community expectations.
Qualifications & Experience
- CPA designation (or equivalent professional accounting accreditation).
- At least 10 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success improving financial systems and operational efficiency.
- Significant experience conducting financial analysis for acquisitions, including modelling, due diligence, and risk assessment.
- Strong background supporting corporate growth strategies, business expansion, or multi-entity portfolio management.
- Experience working directly with executive leadership and Boards of Directors.
- Experience working with Indigenous governments, economic development corporations, or community-owned enterprises.
- Understanding of Indigenous governance, community priorities, and economic development pathways.
- Knowledge of sectors relevant to KEDC’s current or future growth activities.

Working Conditions
- Primarily hybrid office-based with periodic travel to K’ómoks First Nation sites, business operations, and partner meetings.
