This privately owned engineering services business designs, installs and maintains large-scale commercial HVAC. Over the past decade, it has grown to $250m in revenue, with 12 locations across Australia and New Zealand. Work is evenly split across services, new builds and retrofit projects.
The organisation is values-driven, practical and non-bureaucratic, focused on long-term, “win-win” relationships. With a strong balance sheet and disciplined financial approach, it is well positioned to reach $300m through organic growth and targeted acquisitions.
The Opportunity
The current CFO is stepping down, leaving a strong finance function and team. This role offers the chance to bring fresh thinking across M&A, transformation and commercial leadership.
As a key Executive Team member, you will partner closely with the CEO, providing strategic advice and driving value across the business. Your remit covers Finance and Payroll, with a focus on:
- Leading and executing M&A strategy
- Completing a major enterprise systems transformation
- Strengthening financial and commercial capability across a multi-site business
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the CEO, Executive team and Board on strategy, growth and capital allocation
- Deliver clear reporting linking financial and operational performance
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and performance management
- Drive working capital and cashflow discipline
- Oversee governance, risk, compliance and audit
- Lead end-to-end M&A from identification and evaluation through to integration
- Finalise ERP, CRM, and AI system transformation
- Build capability across Finance, IT and Transformation to support growth
About You
You bring experience at, or just below, CFO level in a similar environment, including:
- Leadership in a growing, multi-site organisation
- Strong end-to-end M&A capability and understanding is essential
- Experience in construction, engineering or project-based sectors
- Delivery of system or business transformation (ERP/CRM/HRIS)
- Strong commercial acumen and CA/CPA qualification
You are pragmatic, hands-on and values-driven, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively and balance growth with disciplined risk management.
