Company Description:
Hanuyeh Ghunli Development Corporation (HGDC), the economic development arm of the Nadleh Whut'en First Nation, is seeking a seasoned, strategic and values-driven financial leader to serve as its inaugural Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
This is a rare opportunity to help build and shape a growing Indigenous economic development corporation from the ground up. The CFO will play a foundational leadership role in establishing the financial systems, structures and strategies required to support HGDC's long-term growth and success.
HGDC is advancing a diverse and ambitious portfolio that includes major project participation, acquisitions, operating businesses, strategic investments, procurement opportunities, infrastructure initiatives and partnerships designed to create long-term prosperity for the Nation and its members.
The successful candidate will help position HGDC as a leading Nation-owned development corporation grounded in strong governance, financial discipline, sustainable growth and long-term community wellbeing.
The Opportunity:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO is responsible for the overall financial leadership, integrity, governance and sustainability of HGDC and its affiliated business entities. As a core member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will guide financial strategy across a growing and increasingly sophisticated corporate portfolio that includes operating companies, development projects, investment vehicles, partnerships and joint ventures.
The CFO will lead all aspects of financial planning, accounting, treasury management, taxation, investment analysis, capital deployment, financial reporting, risk management and compliance while helping structure and evaluate complex commercial transactions and strategic opportunities.
This role requires a unique combination of technical financial expertise, commercial acumen, strategic thinking and relationship management. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, Chief and Council, external advisors, financial institutions, government agencies and business partners to support informed decision making and long-term organizational success.
As HGDC continues to grow, the CFO will play a central role in:
- Building the financial systems, reporting frameworks and operational controls required to support a modern and scalable corporate structure.
- Supporting acquisitions, partnerships, financing arrangements and strategic investments through strong financial analysis and due diligence.
- Strengthening HGDC's access to capital and investment readiness.
- Supporting major projects, infrastructure initiatives and equity participation opportunities.
- Promoting accountability, transparency and financial excellence across all business operations and entities.
- Aligning financial performance with broader Nation priorities, including economic self-determination, employment creation, capacity development and long-term prosperity.

The Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced and forward-thinking financial executive who brings both strong commercial discipline and a genuine understanding of Indigenous economic development and Nation-building.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in complex and evolving environments and will possess the ability to balance strategic leadership with practical operational execution. They will be a trusted advisor, strong communicator and collaborative leader capable of supporting organizational growth while maintaining sound financial governance and accountability.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related discipline. Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) considered an asset.
- Professional accounting designation required (CPA or equivalent).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience, preferably within complex corporate, development, infrastructure, Indigenous economic development or investment environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading financial operations, investment analysis, capital planning and strategic financial management within growth-oriented organizations.
- Strong experience evaluating, structuring and executing acquisitions, joint ventures, financing arrangements, partnerships and major investment opportunities.
- Demonstrated success securing capital, supporting major projects and managing complex multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Experience working with or alongside Indigenous governments, communities or economic development corporations, with a strong understanding of Nation-led economic development and governance priorities.
- Strong practical experience developing rolling forecasts, cash flow models, financial reporting systems and performance measurement frameworks that support effective decision making.
- Exceptional ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical insights for non-financial audiences, including Boards of Directors, Chief and Council, operational leadership and community members.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and extensive relevant experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of corporate finance, accounting, taxation, treasury management, investment analysis and financial governance principles.
- Proven ability to analyze, structure and support complex commercial transactions, investments and major projects.
- Strategic thinker with strong business and financial acumen and the ability to align financial management with long-term organizational objectives.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage effectively with Chief and Council, Board members, community members, partners and external stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, discretion and political acuity with the ability to operate effectively in complex and multi-stakeholder environments.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous governance, community priorities and Nation-led economic development approaches is considered a significant asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment while managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
Position Details:
Location: Hybrid
Compensation: CAD $180,000 – $220,000
