A private family office is seeking a highly capable Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer to lead administrative, financial, operational, investment reporting, real estate accounting, and family office support functions.
Reporting directly to family leadership, this executive will oversee internal staff and a broad network of external advisors, including legal, tax, estate planning, investment, real estate, banking, and consulting partners. The role requires a hands-on, highly trusted leader who can combine financial discipline, operational oversight, advisor management, and family office service.
Key Responsibilities
The COO/CFO will lead all functions of the family office, including:
- Accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, cash management, financial reporting, and long-term cash flow forecasting
- Investment tracking, performance reporting, back-office operations, and execution of Investment Committee decisions
- Trust, estate, tax, charitable foundation, insurance, and risk management oversight
- Real estate accounting, reporting, pricing review, contract review, and coordination with external professionals
- Human resources, office administration, systems, processes, controls, and technology improvements
- External advisor management, including bankers, attorneys, tax advisors, investment advisors, real estate advisors, and consultants
- Financial reporting and balance sheet reporting for individual family units and related entities
- Treasurer-level support for a related nonprofit organization, including board-related financial and administrative responsibilities
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will bring a blend of CFO-level financial expertise, COO-level operational leadership, and family office judgment. This person should be comfortable working in a private, high-trust environment where discretion, responsiveness, accuracy, and sound decision-making are essential.
Strong candidates will have experience with:
- Family office, private wealth, closely held business, real estate, investment accounting, or complex entity structures
- Oversight of tax, estate, trust, foundation, and regulatory compliance matters
- Investment reporting, performance analysis, and portfolio administration
- Real estate development, property transactions, contracts, and external advisor coordination
- Leading small professional teams while managing outsourced expert relationships
- Building systems, controls, reporting processes, and accountability across an office environment
