We are currently seeking a high‑impact Chief Financial Officer to oversee all financial, accounting, and control functions for our rapidly growing construction organization in Portland, Maine — a renowned coastal destination celebrated for its tourism, waterfront culture, and world‑famous lobster industry. This role is ideal for a senior finance leader who brings both strategic vision and hands‑on expertise to support disciplined growth and long‑term enterprise value creation.
As a key member of the executive team, the CFO will report directly to the President and operate from the company’s corporate office, serving as a trusted advisor on financial performance, risk management, and operational decision‑making across the construction platform.
The firm is an established commercial general contractor performing projects throughout ME, NH and MA.
Compensation & ESOP Participation

Core Responsibilities
- Direct all financial and accounting activities, including forecasting, budgeting, cash management, banking relationships, insurance programs, audits, tax compliance, and internal controls
- Partner with executive leadership to align financial strategy with operational objectives and company expansion plans
- Lead, coach, and develop accounting and finance professionals while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and best practices
- Work closely with project teams, clients, and external partners to support contract administration, cost control, and financial performance on large‑scale construction and infrastructure initiatives
- Drive the implementation and optimization of financial systems and reporting tools that enable timely, data‑driven insights
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience within the construction industry
- Demonstrated tenure with a reputable construction organization (General Contractor, Construction Manager, EPC, Design‑Build, Civil, or Specialty Contractor)
- Track record of leadership in financial operations, controls, and team development
- Strong command of strategic planning, budgeting, audit and tax processes, and ERP/accounting platforms
- Effective communicator with strong analytical judgment and executive presence
- Open to experienced CFOs as well as senior Controllers or Vice Presidents of Finance ready to advance into a chief financial role
