Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – (confidential search)
This Software as a Service Company is based in Denver, Colorado. The Company serves construction, government, energy & utilities, and other industrial markets. Over 2500 customers utilize the Company’s AI driven software.
Summary:
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for shaping the company’s financial strategy, scaling financial operations, and driving long-term enterprise value. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong operational discipline and deep experience in SaaS and/or hardware-enabled technology businesses. The CFO will oversee all financial functions, including FP&A, accounting, fundraising, investor relations, and compliance, while also playing a critical role in pricing strategy, unit economics, and business model optimization across both hardware and recurring software revenue streams.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to define and execute the company’s long-term strategy
- Serve as a strategic advisor on growth initiatives, market expansion, and drive business model optimization across hardware, SaaS, and hybrid revenue streams (e.g., subscription + equipment)
- Translate operational metrics into financial insights to guide decision-making
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Develop and track key SaaS and hardware metrics (ARR, CAC, LTV, gross margin by product line, payback periods)
- Build scalable financial models that support rapid growth and capital efficiency
Capital Strategy & Fundraising
- Lead equity and debt fundraising efforts, including investor outreach, diligence, and negotiations
- Manage relationships with investors, board members, and financial institutions
- Prepare board materials and investor reporting packages
Accounting & Compliance
- Oversee all accounting operations, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), inventory accounting, R&D tax credits and cost capitalization
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
- Manage audits, tax strategy, and risk management
Business Operations & Efficiency
- Drive financial discipline across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Partner with operations and engineering teams to optimize hardware cost structure and supply chain economics
- Establish KPIs and dashboards that provide visibility into company performance
Pricing & Revenue Strategy
- Develop pricing models for both hardware (capex or lease) and SaaS subscriptions
- Analyze customer segmentation, usage patterns, and monetization opportunities
- Support go-to-market strategy with data-driven insights
Team Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing finance team
- Implement scalable systems, processes, and internal controls
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement
Mergers & Acquisitions
- Partner with CEO in any M&A opportunity to evaluate economics and business strategy
- Experience integrating acquisitions into core financial processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a financial discipline - MBA preferred, CPA required - and 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including prior CFO or VP Finance role in a SaaS or recurring revenue business
- Experience in hardware-enabled SaaS, IoT, or construction technology business preferred
- Strong understanding of unit economics, subscription metrics, and financial modeling
- Experience with fundraising and investor relations
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance
- Background in managing both hardware and software P&Ls
- Experience scaling a high-growth startup or growth-stage company
- Ability to operate at both high-level strategy and detailed execution
