About the Organization
Our client is a regionally and nationally recognized, mission-driven nonprofit organization providing state-of-the-art services and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those living with mental illness. Headquartered in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, the organization serves thousands of individuals and their families across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.
Operating with an annual budget of more than $40M, the organization manages a complex and diversified funding portfolio that includes government contracts, private grants, program fees, and donor support. This financial complexity, combined with deep community impact, requires sophisticated financial leadership grounded in both technical expertise and mission alignment. The organization is at an important moment in its trajectory, with strong programmatic demand, a committed board, and leadership invested in building the infrastructure to sustain and grow its impact.
The Opportunity
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the Executive Management Team and reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer. This is a senior leadership role with broad responsibility for the financial health, integrity, and strategic direction of the organization. The CFO will partner closely with the CEO, department leaders, and the Board of Directors to translate mission into financial strategy and ensure the organization has the systems, controls, and analysis needed to make confident decisions.
The ideal candidate brings experience in nonprofit finance with a strong understanding of government contracting and multi-source funding environments. They will be a strong leader and focused on building and growing the capacity of the 10+ member team. As important as technical expertise is the ability to communicate financial information clearly to diverse audiences and serve as a trusted organizational partner.
