Role Description The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in New Mexico, United States, responsible for overseeing all financial operations of COBRE CONSOLIDATED SCHOOLS. The CFO manages budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with district goals and compliance with state and federal regulations. This role oversees accounting, payroll, purchasing, grants management, and financial reporting, including preparation and presentation of financial statements and reports to the Superintendent, Board of Education, and other stakeholders. The CFO develops and maintains internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to safeguard district assets and ensure efficient use of funds. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising finance staff, collaborating with school and department leaders on budget decisions, managing audits, supporting bond or levy initiatives as needed, and providing strategic financial guidance for long-term planning.
Qualifications
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in a public sector or education environment.
- Expertise in accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls, with experience preparing and interpreting financial statements.
- Knowledge of school finance, government funding, and compliance with state and federal regulations, including grants and restricted funds.
- Proficiency with financial software, spreadsheets, and data management tools; ability to use technology to improve financial processes and reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership, team management, and staff development skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is preferred.
- Relevant experience in K–12 education, public administration, or governmental accounting is highly beneficial.
