About the Columbus Fury
The Columbus Fury are a professional women's volleyball team competing in Major League Volleyball (MLV). As we prepare for the 2027 season, we are building a best-in-class organization focused on competitive excellence, fan experience, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
We are seeking a Director of Business Operations to serve as a key member of our leadership team and help build the operational infrastructure necessary to support a growing professional sports franchise.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with the President & General Manager and gain broad exposure across all aspects of professional sports business operations.
Position Summary
The Director of Business Operations serves as a key member of the Columbus Fury leadership team, responsible for coordinating organizational execution, improving internal processes, and supporting business operations across multiple departments.
Working closely with the President & General Manager, this role helps ensure the organization operates efficiently by managing projects, implementing systems, supporting administrative functions, and facilitating collaboration across ticketing, partnerships, marketing, finance, and game operations. The Director of Business Operations plays a critical role in building the infrastructure, accountability, and operational discipline necessary to support the continued growth of the franchise.
This position is ideal for a highly organized, solutions-oriented professional who enjoys building processes, managing complex projects, solving problems, and helping a growing organization achieve its goals. Key Responsibilities
Business Operations & Organizational Leadership
- Coordinate day-to-day business operations across the organization
- Develop and improve operational systems, workflows, and internal processes
- Lead cross-department initiatives and strategic projects
- Establish accountability measures, timelines, and reporting processes
- Support organizational planning and execution
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness across departments
Financial Administration & Reporting
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Monitor departmental spending and budget compliance
- Coordinate with outsourced finance and business advisors
- Develop reports, dashboards, and key performance metrics
- Support executive and ownership reporting requirements
Department Coordination & Project Management
- Coordinate cross-functional initiatives involving Ticketing, Corporate Partnerships, Marketing, and other business departments
- Support department leaders by improving communication, project management, reporting, and operational execution
- Help ensure organizational priorities are executed efficiently and on schedule
- Manage special projects and organizational initiatives
Technology, CRM & Systems
- Serve as the organization's internal owner of CRM and business systems
- Support ticketing, sponsorship, marketing, and fan engagement platforms
- Improve reporting capabilities and data management processes
- Evaluate and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency
Human Resources & Administration
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and employee administration
- Assist with employee policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Coordinate training and professional development initiatives
- Help build and maintain a positive organizational culture
Event & Venue Operations
- Support planning and execution of Columbus Fury home matches and events
- Coordinate operational logistics with venue and vendor partners
- Assist with premium hospitality and fan experience initiatives
- Support community events, appearances, and special projects
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in business operations, administration, project management, sports business, event management, hospitality, or a related field
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and modern business software tools
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and coordinate projects across multiple stakeholders without direct supervisory authority
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and stakeholder groups
Preferred
- Master's degree in Sports Management, Business Administration (MBA), Higher Education Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field
- Experience in professional sports, college athletics, entertainment, hospitality, or live events
- Experience managing budgets and financial reporting
- Familiarity with CRM platforms, ticketing systems, and business intelligence tools
- Experience leading projects and coordinating cross-functional teams
- Experience in a growing, entrepreneurial, or startup environment
