Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) — Construction
About the Opportunity
An established, ground-up construction firm in the NYC/tri-state area is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead its finance function. This is a senior leadership role for a construction finance executive ready to serve as a strategic partner to ownership while overseeing all financial operations, controls, and reporting across a growing organization. What You'll Do
- Lead the financial department, coordinating across development, operations, risk management, executive leadership, and other departments
- Plan, manage, and coordinate all financial functions across the organization
- Lead negotiations and manage relationships with sureties and banks
- Provide timely, accurate analysis of budgets, results, and forecasts
- Oversee all transactional accounting functions, including AR, AP, payroll, and job costing
- Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and financial reporting
- Lead Controlled Insurance Program (CCIP) reporting and audits in partnership with the Risk Manager
- Evaluate and continuously improve financial policies, controls, and processes to support efficient, scalable growth
- Own the evolution of financial systems in partnership with the CEO and executive team to support short- and long-term strategic goals
- Hire, train, mentor, and manage finance and accounting staff in partnership with HR
- Oversee credit and collections activity alongside Operations and Accounting
- Partner closely with Project Management leadership on cost reports, WIP analysis, and financial forecasting
- Ensure timely completion of all tax filings and related matters
- Deliver regular and ad hoc financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis
- Act as a strategic advisor to ownership and functional leadership on financial and business decisions
- Lead the annual budget process and present short- and long-term financial forecasts
- Oversee regulatory reporting, accounting policy, and all audit functions (financial, insurance, corporate, CCIP, 401K, sales tax)
What We're Looking For
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA, MS, or CPA desirable
- 15+ years of construction accounting/finance experience required
- Public accounting background preferred; CPA desirable
- Strong track record building construction accounting processes and internal controls
- Experience hiring, training, developing, and managing accounting and finance staff
- Outstanding communication and team-building skills
- Strong accounting acumen paired with superior analytical skills
- Sound technical judgment and strong operational focus
- Proficiency across construction ERP systems; Sage 300 experience preferred
