Role Description The Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a remote, contract role responsible for providing strategic financial leadership to higher education clients during periods of transition. This role oversees financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and long‑term sustainability. The Interim CFO will review and interpret financial statements, monitor cash flow, oversee financial reporting, and advise executive leadership on key financial decisions and risk management. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include assessing existing financial operations, recommending process improvements, supporting compliance with relevant regulations, and collaborating with campus leaders to strengthen financial controls and reporting practices. The Interim CFO will also contribute to the integration of data‑driven and AI‑enabled financial tools, helping institutions enhance transparency, performance measurement, and strategic decision‑making.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Finance, with demonstrated experience in higher education or mission‑driven organizations.
- Advanced Financial Planning and budgeting skills, including forecasting and long‑range institutional planning.
- Proficiency in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting Financial Statements and related financial documentation.
- Experience with Financial Reporting, including developing dashboards, board‑level reports, and compliance‑oriented reporting.
- Excellent Analytical Skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear recommendations.
- Proven experience in senior financial leadership roles (CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent), ideally in higher education.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to colleges and universities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse campus stakeholders in a remote environment.
