About Maia Farms
Maia Farms is the expert mushroom integrator for modern food manufacturing. Operating at the intersection of food science and bio-manufacturing, we specialize in scalable, reliable, and versatile mushroom-based ingredients. Our solutions seamlessly embed functional performance and measurable nutritional benefits into everyday foods—without compromising the taste, texture, or clean-label integrity that consumers demand.
We are at an exciting inflection point in our business. Maia is rapidly scaling our first product line of blended, mushroom-based extruded ingredients. With over 20 active customers and a highly robust sales pipeline, we are on track to realize more than $1MM in 2026 revenue.
Our commitment to innovation never stops. We are currently developing proprietary fermentation technology to support the launch of our next-generation mycelium product in 2027. This technology is already de-risked and supported by multiple patents, alongside regulatory approval from Health Canada. All of our ingredients are manufactured with an unwavering commitment to meeting the rigorous global quality, safety, and compliance standards required for modern food manufacturing.
Born from a challenge to feed astronauts in deep space, Maia Farms has evolved into one of Canada’s leading food-tech companies. Headquartered in Vancouver, our mission is to Nourish Life, guided by our core values: Food First, Planet Forward, and Agile Evolution.
We have raised more than $8MM, are backed by a strong syndicate of investors, and have a significant financial runway to execute our growth plan. As we enter a phase of transformative scaling, we are currently expanding our Senior Management team with visionary leaders ready to drive significant growth over the next 18–24 months and translate our innovations into high-impact products for consumers worldwide.
The Opportunity
As Maia Farms enters its next phase of rapid expansion, we are seeking a strategic and commercially-minded Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to guide our financial future. This is a rare opportunity to shape the trajectory of a pioneering Canadian food-tech company.
You will serve as a key member of the Maia Senior Management team and work closely with the CEO, translating our scientific and manufacturing innovations into a robust, scalable financial engine. You will take ownership of our capital strategy, supporting fundraising efforts, optimizing the unit economics of our commercial processes, and building the financial infrastructure required to scale our operations globally. If you are passionate about the future of food and thrive in a high-growth, agile environment, we want you on our team.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Act as a key member of a 4-person Senior Leadership team at Maia to translate the company’s vision into actionable financial plans, driving long-term enterprise value. Work closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors to develop a near-term and long-term growth strategy for Maia.
- Fundraising & Capital Strategy: Support future equity and debt financing rounds. Manage relationships with investors, banks, and government grant agencies to ensure the company is fully capitalized for expansion.
- Unit Economics & Commercial Finance: Partner with the operations and scientific teams to optimize the financial performance of our fermentation and extrusion processes. Develop pricing strategies, manage margins, and drive cost-reduction initiatives as we scale manufacturing.
- Financial Operations (FP&A): Build and oversee the financial planning and analysis function. Deliver accurate forecasting, budgeting, and scenario modeling to guide strategic decision-making.
- Accounting, Tax & Compliance: Ensure pristine financial reporting, rigorous internal controls, and compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements in Canada and our international target markets.
- Systems & Infrastructure: Lead the evaluation and implementation of scalable financial systems (e.g., ERP integration) that can handle complex manufacturing and supply chain data.
Skills and Experience
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 3-5 years serving as a CFO, VP of Finance, or Head of Finance in a high-growth startup environment.
- Industry Knowledge: Prior experience in food-tech, CPG, biotechnology, or physical manufacturing is highly preferred. You must understand the financial mechanics of scaling a physical product and modelling production pathways.
- Fundraising Track Record: Demonstrated success in directly raising or supporting venture capital, securing debt facilities, and managing non-dilutive government funding.
- Technical Expertise: A deep understanding of cost accounting, unit economics, and complex financial modeling.
- Qualifications: A CPA, CFA, or MBA is strongly preferred.
- Cultural Fit: You embody our "Agile Evolution" value. You are as comfortable building financial models one day, and presenting to the Board of Directors the next.
