About Earth Energy Education
We teach the children of the future about green energy, climate change and biodiversity. We deliver exceptional educational programmes at renewable energy sites across the UK, and we are growing into new sites across Scotland and into the offshore wind industry and internationally.
We are a small, ambitious team based in rural Perthshire. Our aim is to grow sustainably while keeping the quality of what we deliver exactly where it is.
The Role
This is a new role and the most senior appointment in the business after the director, to whom it reports. You will run the business side of the company: keeping the operation running smoothly, raising our profile, looking after our client relationships, and working directly with the director on where we go next.
It is a hands-on job in a small team. You will be the person who makes things happen day to day, with real influence over how the company grows.
What you will be doing:
Running the operation
- Keeping day to day operations running smoothly and improving how we work as we grow
- Scheduling our education programmes and making sure delivery goes to plan
- Owning our operational policies and procedures, including health and safety for site visits
- Sorting problems out as they arise, so the director does not have to
Commercial oversight
- Monitoring budgets and cash flow, and flagging anything that needs attention
- Working with our bookkeeper, who handles payroll, invoicing and the day to day accounts
- Developing a small set of KPIs so we can see how the business is performing
- Spotting where we can work more efficiently or reduce cost
Marketing and communications
- Building and running our marketing so more sites and schools know who we are
- Looking after our social media, website content and email updates
- Keeping our brand, PR and external communications consistent and professional
Relationships and growth
- Building strong relationships with clients, energy site operators, schools and partners
- Acting as the main point of contact for operational matters
- Supporting and developing our two full time administrators, setting kpis and managing appraisals
- Developing strong relationships with our team of consultants, recruiting new consultants when required
- Working with the director on new business
What we are looking for:
- Experience of running the business side of a small organisation, in operations, business management or something similar
- Comfortable with numbers: reading a budget, watching cash flow and understanding what the figures are telling you
- Well organised, with the judgement to decide what matters most that week
- A confident communicator who can build relationships with clients and partners
- Happy working independently and taking decisions without waiting to be asked
- Confident with everyday business software such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Willing to undergo a Disclosure Scotland (PVG) check, given our work with young people on site visits
Nice to have, but not essential
- An interest and understanding of renewables, sustainability and/or education
- Experience of marketing, including social media and digital
- A track record of helping a small business grow
- Experience of account management or client relationships
The practical details
- Full time, with hybrid working: three days a week in our Perthshire office and two from home
- Workplace pension and enhanced holiday package
- Occasional travel to renewable energy sites, events and trade shows across Scotland and the UK
- A full driving licence and access to a car will be required.
