Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating Officer (m/f/x)
XO Life is building brite - the world's first digital platform that supports patients throughout their entire healthcare journey, from the moment they first search for information about a condition to long-term treatment adherence. No comparable platform exists globally. Patients can use brite for any medication, any therapy and any medical condition, all in one place and free of charge. Pharmaceutical companies pay an annual software subscription to deliver digital support to their patients through the platform.
We work with 40+ pharmaceutical companies - including 5 of the top 10 largest global pharmaceutical companies as well as specialist and mid-size pharmaceutical companies - across 60+ therapeutic areas, supporting patients across chronic conditions, rare diseases, cancer care and beyond. We are the market leader in Germany and are actively expanding across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
With a 32-person team spanning 14 nationalities in Munich and a Series A fundraising round planned for late 2026, we are entering our most important growth phase.
Why This Role Is Truly Unique
This is not a conventional finance or operations role. The Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating Officer at XO Life will be a co-architect of the company's next chapter - leading our Series A fundraising process, building the financial and operational infrastructure to scale across multiple countries and hundreds of pharmaceutical clients, and acting as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer in all major company decisions. You will join a company that:
- Has already proven product-market fit with 40+ pharmaceutical company clients - including 5 of the top 10 largest global pharmaceutical companies as well as specialist and mid-size pharmaceutical companies - across 60+ therapeutic areas and ~100% year-on-year revenue growth
- Is preparing for a Series A funding round and subsequent international expansion into new European markets and the United States
- Operates at the intersection of consumer-grade technology and pharmaceutical-grade compliance - a combination that creates deep, defensible competitive advantages
- Generates real-world patient health data at scale across multiple conditions and geographies, with the potential to transform medical research and pharmaceutical development
- Has an experienced board of investors alongside pharmaceutical industry leaders and consumer health executives
Ideal Background: Finance Leadership with a Builder's Mindset
Core requirement: Minimum 3 years of experience in the investment team of a venture capital fund, or in the leading finance function of a startup that has successfully managed its Series A funding round and beyond
- Expert-level financial modelling - you can build a Series A-ready model from scratch, stress-test it across scenarios and present it convincingly to sophisticated investors
- Deep fluency in software subscription business metrics: annual recurring revenue, monthly recurring revenue, net revenue retention, gross margin, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, payback period, burn multiple and runway - you think and speak in these numbers naturally
- Strong understanding of what a compelling equity story looks like: how to frame early traction, market size, competitive moat and growth trajectory in a way that resonates with institutional investors
- Experience building investor relationships proactively - you are comfortable initiating conversations, presenting at investor events and representing the company externally, not just internally
- Track record of supporting or leading internationalisation: setting up legal entities, managing compliance in new markets, building the operational infrastructure that makes global expansion work in practice
Your Responsibilities
1. Series A Fundraising and Investor Relations
- Lead the preparation and execution of the Series A funding round, including investor materials, financial models, due diligence process and term sheet negotiation
- Build and maintain relationships with venture capital investors, strategic investors and the existing board
- Own investor reporting, board presentations and financial communications
2. Financial Architecture and Planning
- Build a robust financial planning and analysis function covering revenue forecasting, cost management, cash flow and scenario planning
- Develop the unit economics framework for the platform business model, including metrics across pharmaceutical client acquisition, retention and expansion
- Own budget management, monthly close and financial reporting across the company
3. Operational Scaling
- Build and optimise the operational processes that allow XO Life to scale its pharmaceutical client base, its team and its geographic footprint simultaneously
- Oversee legal entity setup, regulatory and tax compliance in new markets as the company expands across Europe and toward the United States
- Manage vendor relationships, procurement and infrastructure costs as the business grows
4. Co-Leadership and Strategic Partnership
- Act as a strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer across company direction, hiring decisions, commercial strategy and board management
- Build and lead the finance and operations function, hiring and developing the team as the company scales
- Represent XO Life externally with investors, partners and key pharmaceutical clients where financial or operational topics are on the agenda
Who You Are
You are someone who is:
- Analytically exceptional - you live in spreadsheets, love building financial models and can translate numbers into a story that moves people
- Outgoing, proactive and network-driven - you genuinely enjoy meeting investors, opening doors and representing a company externally, not just managing things internally
- Ambitious and hungry to build something significant - you are drawn to this role because you want to help build a global company, not because it is a stable next step
- Sharp and hard-working - you move fast, hold yourself to a high standard and do not wait to be told what needs to be done
- Flexible and globally minded - you are comfortable with the ambiguity and operational complexity of building a business across multiple countries and cultures
- Ready to operate at the very top of a company after significant senior experience at a growth-stage technology or digital health company
- Willing to be based in or spend significant time in Munich
Bonus: Experience with business-to-business software subscription models; background in healthcare, life sciences or a regulated industry; existing relationships in the European or United States venture capital ecosystem
