CFO Recruit has been retained by a member-owned electric cooperative in Nevada to appoint a new CFO. Our client distributes power to homes and businesses across Nevada and Northern California and delivers fiber-optic internet to rural communities. The position reports to the CEO and manages accounting, finance, facilities, warehouse and procurement. The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for promoting the vision and mission of the organization and developing and achieving strategic goals. The CFO will work in close partnership with a forward thinking and collaborative CEO and leadership team to drive performance and continued success.
The CFO will have the following responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting, mentoring, developing and directing the activities of six team members in the accounting function.
- Oversee the preparation of complete and accurate financial reporting in accordance with RUS and FERC Uniform System of Accounts and GAAP. Responsible for financial reporting for Federal, State, and Local agencies and ensuring compliance.
- Conduct internal audits of controls, procedures, and processes as necessary.
- Act as point of contact for external auditors and ensure adherence with annual audit requirements.
- Partner with the CEO to measure and monitor KPIs, driving performance for all departments and businesses.
- Partner with wider departments to ensure correct accounting procedures are followed and safeguarding of assets. Manage all property records.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure maintenance of subsidiary records for each general ledger account.
- Own the annual budget process and financial forecasts and produce analysis of financial and operational results each month.
- Perform various cost analyses, prepare reports and make recommendations for management as requested.
- Responsible for cash management, monitoring daily cash flow.
- Partner with department leaders and support new strategic initiatives.
- Oversee and manage 4 staff in procurement/warehouse 1 team member in facilities.
- Oversee project management and development of capital projects involving building and grounds using drawings, RFPs, all aspects of permitting and legal contracts.
- Prepare and submit budget estimates, plan organize and direct construction projects.
- Oversee procurement ensuring cost effectiveness, improving prices, quality and service where appropriate.
- Produce accurate reporting on inventory, stock flow, salvage returns and lead time purchasing requirements for high-value items.
- Oversee inventory management ensuring effective storage and distribution of inventory and waste reduction.
- Oversee effective coordination of materials and supplies to ensure availability and delivery of required commodities for field construction of electric, broadband and solar projects.
- Negotiate competitive terms for current and new purchase contracts, facilities maintenance agreements.
To be successful in this role the CFO must have the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and ideally 10 years of experience in public accounting at a management level or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Experience in Utility Accounting strongly preferred.
- Excellent team leading experience with the ability to mentor, develop and motivate teams to ensure maximum output.
- Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills with the ability to analyze and interpret and communicate technical information, financial reports, and legal documents to non finance colleagues.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices, budgeting methods, insurance, taxes, banking and other financial matters.
The salary advertised for this role is a guideline and salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
