Our client, a newly acquired, private equity-backed professional services organization, is seeking a commercially minded, hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to partner with the CEO, private equity sponsor, and leadership team in driving operational performance, financial growth, and long-term enterprise value.
This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a finance-oriented executive who combines strategic financial planning with hands-on operational execution. The CFO will oversee finance and multiple corporate and operational functions, working closely with sales, operations, IT, HR, and other business leaders to improve profitability, strengthen business processes, and support scalable growth.
With a 3-5-year investment horizon, this individual will play a critical role in executing the company's value creation strategy and preparing the organization for its next stage of ownership.
Must haves:
- Finance-track background (not accounting)
- Smaller-size revenue companies (sub $100M, would consider upwards of $300M)
- Private equity exposure
Compensation: $250-310K + 30% Bonus + Equity
Role:
- Partner with the CEO, executive leadership team, and private equity sponsor to develop and execute the company's financial and operational strategy.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, financial modeling, and performance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Translate financial and operational data into actionable insights that drive revenue growth, margin expansion, cash flow improvement, and increased enterprise value.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics to measure performance against the company's strategic objectives and PE-backed value creation plan.
- Support acquisition integration, growth initiatives, and strategic planning activities throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Work closely with sales leadership to evaluate revenue performance, pricing strategies, customer profitability, sales productivity, and overall commercial effectiveness.
- Develop financial frameworks and analytical tools to support sales strategy, pipeline visibility, forecasting accuracy, and resource allocation.
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue quality, customer mix, pricing discipline, and contribution margins.
- Serve as a strategic business partner to the commercial organization, helping translate sales objectives into measurable financial outcomes.
- Partner with operations and functional leaders to identify opportunities to improve productivity, streamline processes, optimize resource utilization, and enhance operating margins.
- Evaluate business processes and organizational structures to identify inefficiencies, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for operational improvement.
- Drive accountability across departments through financial reporting, performance metrics, and data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate with department heads to develop and execute initiatives that improve business performance, scalability, and profitability.
- Take a hands-on approach to solving business challenges and implementing practical solutions across the organization.
- Provide financial and strategic oversight across a broad range of functions, potentially including finance, accounting, IT, HR, and other shared or corporate services.
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance organization while ensuring the business has the systems, processes, and talent necessary to support continued growth.
- Work cross-functionally with department leaders to align budgets, headcount, technology investments, and operating plans with overall business objectives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, board, and private equity sponsor, providing clear analysis, recommendations, and strategic perspectives on business performance.
- Partner with the private equity sponsor to execute the investment thesis and achieve targeted financial and operational improvements.
- Establish financial discipline, reporting infrastructure, and operating metrics consistent with private equity ownership expectations.
- Monitor progress against value creation initiatives and communicate performance, risks, and opportunities to key stakeholders.
- Support transaction readiness, due diligence, financial analysis, and exit planning in preparation for a future liquidity event within the anticipated 3-5-year investment horizon.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- Significant progressive experience in strategic finance, commercial finance, FP&A, operational finance, or finance leadership, with demonstrated progression into senior executive responsibility.
- Prior CFO, VP of Finance, divisional finance leadership, or comparable experience within a small to mid-sized organization.
- Experience within professional services, commercial services, business services, or another operationally complex, service-oriented business.
- Demonstrated experience working within a private equity-backed organization, partnering with a PE sponsor, or supporting a PE-backed value creation plan.
- Experience in businesses with revenues generally below $500 million; experience in organizations closer to $100 million or below is particularly relevant.
- Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands-on, balancing financial planning and analysis with day-to-day business partnership and execution.
- Demonstrated success partnering with sales and operations leadership to improve revenue performance, margins, productivity, and profitability.
- Experience overseeing or partnering across multiple business functions, including operations, IT, HR, and other corporate or shared services.
- Strong commercial acumen, analytical capabilities, financial modeling skills, and the ability to turn complex data into actionable business recommendations.
- A track record of solving complex business problems, implementing process improvements, and driving measurable financial and operational results.
