About the Role
As Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will play a central role in shaping Cayuga Mutual’s financial strength, sustainability, and strategic direction. Reporting to the CEO/President as a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO provides trusted financial counsel to the CEO/President and Board of Directors, oversees financial operations and the investment portfolio, and leads a finance team of two direct reports.
Cayuga Mutual is a financially strong, growth-oriented, membership-based property and casualty mutual insurer located in Cayuga, Ontario, with annual gross written premiums in excess of $17 million. Through a dedicated staff and agent distribution network, we provide high-quality insurance products and coverage for farm, automobile, commercial, and residential customers.
Job Duties
- Report to the CEO/President and provide strategic financial advice to the CEO/President, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team.
- Oversee all accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with Ontario insurance regulations.
- Manage relationships with auditors, regulators, reinsurers, and other key stakeholders.
- Provide strategic financial analysis to support decision-making across underwriting, claims, and operations.
- Monitor and manage investment portfolios in accordance with corporate policy and risk appetite.
- Lead, mentor, and develop two direct reports within the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and technology adoption within financial processes.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) with a minimum of 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within the insurance or financial services sector.
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS, FSRA regulations, and insurance industry financial practices.
