Business Systems Engineer
Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY (in-office, 5 days/week)
$100,000 - $175,000 base + bonus
Our client is a fast-growing energy infrastructure company building and operating projects across dense urban markets. As the business scales from tens to hundreds of active projects, the corporate technology function is still coming together, and this hire will be foundational to it.
You'll step into a company where internal systems have grown organically and now need a real owner. Salesforce, a construction management platform (Kahua), and an ERP implementation (NetSuite) all need to talk to each other cleanly. Data lives in too many places right now, and the mandate is to consolidate it, clean it up, and build the source-of-truth database that the rest of the company can trust.
What you'll actually be doing
- Design and build a source-of-truth database for all active projects from the ground up
- Take ownership of the existing Salesforce and Kahua deployments, and keep improving them
- Serve as the internal technical lead on the ERP buildout, working alongside a third-party implementation partner
- Build integrations across these systems using low-code tools or custom scripting so data stays consistent
- Partner directly with development, construction, operations, and finance to translate how the business actually runs into scalable data models and processes
- Start identifying where AI can cut out routine work, ahead of a broader company AI strategy
What they're looking for
- 4+ years working hands-on with business-critical platforms: Salesforce, an ERP, or comparable low-code systems
- 2+ years owning a business system end to end: roadmap, stakeholder communication, design calls, day-to-day operation
- Real Salesforce admin/dev experience (this isn't a pure Salesforce engineering seat, but you need to be fluent)
- Experience designing relational data models from scratch and shipping them to production
- Python for scripting and integrations
- Comfort building integrations across APIs, webhooks, ETL/ELT, or iPaaS tools
- A process mind that thinks about scale and edge cases by default, not after the fact
Bonus points for ERP implementation experience with a third-party firm, hands-on AI/LLM work inside business systems, exposure to construction management platforms, or a background in energy, real estate development, or another asset-heavy industry.
Why this role
This is a build-from-scratch opportunity with a clear growth path. The team is intentionally hiring someone who isn't necessarily a career developer, someone eager to learn who can grow into specializing and eventually leading a broader business systems function as the company adds headcount underneath them. Get this right and there's a real path to Director of Business Systems.
