Job Summary
McPherson Engineering is seeking a hands-on software engineer to develop the internal software, engineering tools, and business systems used by our growing multi-state engineering firm.
This position will work directly with company leadership and our engineering teams to identify repetitive or inefficient work and turn it into practical software solutions. Projects will range from internal business applications and system integrations to engineering calculation software, automated drafting tools, document generation, and AI-assisted workflows.
We are looking for someone who can understand a real-world problem, determine the best technical solution, and personally take it from concept through deployment.
Responsibilities
- Design and build internal web and desktop applications.
- Develop engineering calculation software that converts established engineering methods and procedures into reliable internal tools.
- Develop drafting and CAD automation software to automate repetitive drawing, detailing, annotation, scheduling, and plan-production tasks.
- Build integrations between project management, accounting, Microsoft 365, CRM, CAD, and other company systems.
- Develop APIs, webhooks, databases, scripts, and automated workflows.
- Create reporting and management dashboards using company project and financial data.
- Automate proposals, project setup, invoicing, document production, project closeout, and other repetitive processes.
- Develop document-control and authentication systems, including QR-based verification of engineering documents.
- Build searchable systems for previous projects, engineering information, and company knowledge.
- Develop AI-assisted tools for document review, data extraction, drafting, engineering workflows, and internal search.
- Evaluate existing software and determine when to configure, integrate, or build a custom solution.
- Gather requirements directly from engineers and other employees and translate them into working software.
- Maintain and improve the systems developed as company needs evolve.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software or application-development experience.
- Strong proficiency in one or more languages such as C#/.NET, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar.
- Strong SQL and relational-database experience.
- Experience developing APIs and integrating third-party software.
- Experience building business applications, internal tools, SaaS applications, or similar systems.
- Git/source-control experience.
- Ability to independently design, build, test, and deploy software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to understand workflows outside traditional software development.
Preferred Experience
- AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk APIs, AutoLISP, Dynamo, or other CAD automation.
- Engineering calculation or technical-analysis software.
- Automated drawing or document generation.
- Microsoft 365, Power Automate, Power BI, Azure, or Microsoft Graph.
- QuickBooks Online or ERP/project-management integrations.
- AI/LLM APIs and AI-assisted development.
- Architecture, engineering, construction, or other technical professional-services experience.

- Dashboards showing project profitability, staffing, workloads, and turnaround times.

McPherson Engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering firm serving clients throughout the United States. This position will have substantial freedom to shape the software and automation systems we use as the company grows.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
