Role Description The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Amarillo Area, responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the Catholic Diocese of Amarillo. The CFO manages budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for diocesan offices, parishes, schools, and ministries, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and alignment with Church and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day tasks include supervising accounting functions, monitoring cash flow and investments, preparing financial statements, and advising diocesan leadership on financial planning and risk management. The CFO collaborates with department heads and pastors on stewardship, compliance, and resource allocation, and works closely with auditors, banks, and external partners to maintain sound financial practices. The role also involves developing and implementing financial policies, internal controls, and systems that support the diocese’s mission and long-term sustainability.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in accounting principles, financial reporting, and audit coordination, preferably in nonprofit or faith-based settings.
- Knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and regulatory compliance relevant to charitable and ecclesiastical organizations.
- Experience with financial systems, spreadsheets, and accounting software (i.e. QuickBooks); ability to improve and streamline financial processes.
- Proven leadership skills, including team supervision, mentoring, and collaborative decision-making with senior leadership.
- Clear, professional communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credential preferred.
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical financial stewardship.
- Ability to work on-site in the Greater Amarillo Area and engage respectfully with the mission, values, and ministries of the Catholic Diocese.
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
