ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will serve as a strategic business partner and core member of the executive leadership team, with accountability for the financial functions of B. H. Graning Landscapes, Inc. and several related entities. Managing a $10M+ annual revenue portfolio, the CFO will lead the accounting team, optimize seasonal cash flow, strengthen financial controls, and build scalable financial systems. The ideal candidate will balance high-level financial strategy with hands-on execution while helping maximize profitability across residential and commercial landscape construction, maintenance, and snow operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:
• Partner directly with the Owner and Executive Team to guide corporate strategy, capital allocation, short-term operational execution, and long-term business growth.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the existing accounting team, including the Senior Bookkeeper and Division Accounts Managers.
• Develop strategic cash flow models to balance high-revenue summer construction months with capital-intensive winter snow operations.
• Oversee the acquisition, financing, and depreciation of the company’s heavy equipment and vehicle fleet.
• Direct corporate insurance and liability strategies related to commercial snow removal, construction, and company operations.
• Lead financial decision-making related to expansion, mergers, and acquisitions.
• Evaluate and report on profitability and margins across design-build, recurring maintenance, and snow service lines.
• Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the Owner, Executive Team, Operations leaders, and lending institutions.
• Refine labor, material, and other direct job-cost monitoring to provide timely project profitability reporting and analytics.
• Communicate key financial concepts to team members at all levels and help leaders understand how operational decisions affect financial outcomes.
• Audit and enforce internal accounting policies and controls to reduce waste, mitigate risk, and protect company assets.
• Coordinate with the company CPA firm on state and federal tax strategy, tax-saving opportunities, and equipment depreciation planning, including Section 179.
• 5+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in construction, landscaping, or another heavy asset-based industry.
• Proven experience overseeing financial operations for companies in the $10M-$20M revenue range.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. Active CPA designation or MBA preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of job profitability analysis, T&M and progress billings, seasonal labor modeling, payroll expenses, and liability transactions.
• Knowledge of traditional real estate purchase and sale transactions, including gain/loss calculations and reporting requirements.
• Proficiency with Aspire, QuickBooks Enterprise, QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Outlook, and advanced Microsoft Excel financial modeling.
• Demonstrated leadership, accountability, integrity, and commitment to team development and sound financial decision-making consistent with GAAP and industry guidelines.
