The Company
STAPLE Investments is hiring the finance leader for a company we expect to acquire. It is a highly profitable business that sells pharmaceutical and over-the-counter products through the national pharmaceutical wholesalers. It has reached its current size without a dedicated salesperson.
This role takes ownership of the company's finance function at closing. Company identity, financials, and the full mandate are shared with qualified candidates under NDA. Placement is contingent on closing.
What You Will Do
- Run forecasting, budgeting, and cash: a forecast you are willing to defend, and disciplined management of inventory, receivables, and wholesaler payment terms
- Build the finance infrastructure: systems, policies, and KPI reporting. Where it is not written down today, you will write it
- Getting the numbers right: a timely close, reporting that STAPLE and its investors can rely on, and a clear view of profitability by item, customer, and channel. In this business, margin lives between gross and net price, and you need to see it at the item level.
- Put the numbers to work: pricing, product selection, working capital, and the investment case for new channels. Product-selection discipline is the company's core advantage, and finance is what keeps it honest.
- Lead the financial transition at closing: opening balance sheet, reporting to STAPLE, banking, insurance, and the handoff of financial knowledge that lives in people's heads today
- Build item, customer, and channel-level profitability reporting, and work with business development to tell a listing win from a profitable listing win
- Own accounting and the close: monthly financials, controls, tax, and audit readiness, delivered on a cadence the owners can plan around
- Own gross-to-net: chargeback, rebate, and distribution service fee accruals and reconciliations with the national wholesalers. Know what each item actually earns after everything comes out
- Support pricing and product selection: model new items before launch, measure them after, and help leadership decide what to add, reprice, or drop
- Lender reporting and establishing a lineup of trackable KPIs
- Underwrite new channels: the financial case and compliance requirements for federal and VA/DoD (FSS pricing, contract compliance), adjacent categories, and a direct-to-consumer pilot
What You Bring
- Senior finance experience in a products business with real gross-to-net complexity: pharmaceutical, OTC, consumer health, medical products, or distribution. Working fluency in chargebacks, rebates, and distribution service fees is the single most important qualification
- A hands-on record: you have closed the books yourself, built the model yourself, and can still do both
- FP&A strength: item-level margin analysis, forecasting, and the judgment to turn analysis into a pricing or product decision
- Working capital discipline: inventory, receivables, and cash management in a business that holds and ships physical product
- Experience under private equity or other institutional ownership, ideally including the transition of a privately held company to institutional reporting
- Roughly 10 to 15+ years in finance and accounting, including time at a company small enough that you personally managed.
- Comfort working in a lean environment: a small team, no layers, and no one to delegate the hard parts to
Why This Role
- A long-hold owner: we do not buy companies to flip them, and you will be measured over years rather than quarters
- A real seat at the table: finance here shapes pricing and product selection, not just reporting on them
- Growth to underwrite: new channels already identified, with a dedicated business development leader joining alongside you
- You are building from strength, not managing a crisis
- High trust and real ownership: the finance function is yours to build
Compensation and Details
- Base salary of $225,000 - $275,000, experience dependent
- Annual performance bonus
- Participation in management incentive program
- Comprehensive benefits, including health coverage, 401(k), and PTO
- Based on-site in Charlotte, NC
