J.Crew’s eCommerce business is one of our most important growth engines. We’re looking for a Senior Director, eCommerce Business Operations & Strategy to build the operating engine behind it, turning strategy into execution and setting the operating rhythm a business of this scale and ambition requires.
Role Summary
The Senior Director, Business Operations & Strategy is the operating and strategic right hand to the eCommerce leadership team, responsible for how the business plans, prioritizes, decides, and moves. Reporting to the EVP, eCommerce & Digital Experience, this leader owns the operating rhythm of the organization, sets the standard of rigor applied to performance and the P&L, and accelerates the initiatives that matter most. The role spans strategy and execution: framing the biggest questions facing the business, bringing data and structure to the answer, and then driving the work to a result. This is a high-trust, high-visibility role for someone who thinks analytically and commercially, is comfortable operating across every function, and is energized by making an organization sharper, faster, and better at working together.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the Operating Rhythm: Design and run the cadence the business operates on, including weekly performance reviews, monthly and quarterly business reviews, planning cycles, and leadership meetings. Set the agenda, frame the decisions, drive to outcomes, and hold the organization accountable to what was agreed.
- Accelerate Priority Initiatives: Take the handful of initiatives that matter most and make them move. Bring structure, milestones, owners, and momentum to work that spans multiple teams, clearing obstacles and stepping in personally where the work needs a driver.
- Build Rigor Around the Business: Define what the business needs to know to make good decisions, and hold the organization to a consistent, fact-based way of looking at itself. Partner closely with Business Insights & Analytics, who owns measurement and reporting, and with Finance, to make sure the right questions are being asked and that insight consistently converts into decisions and action.
- Shape the Strategic Agenda: Frame the biggest questions facing the eCommerce business and direct the work that answers them, drawing on Analytics, Finance, and the functional teams. Build the point of view, pressure-test the assumptions, and translate the conclusion into a clear recommendation and a plan leadership can act on.
- Improve Ways of Working: Diagnose where the organization is slow, duplicative, or unclear, and fix it. Clarify decision rights, streamline process, reduce meeting and reporting load, and raise the standard for how teams plan, communicate, and execute together.
- Partner Across the Enterprise: Act as a trusted counterpart to Merchandising, Planning, Marketing, Technology, Supply Chain, Finance, and HR. Build the relationships and shared context that let cross-functional work land and represent the eCommerce business credibly in enterprise forums.
- Anticipate What’s Next: Look beyond the current quarter to where the business is heading. Track competitive, customer, and industry shifts, size the implications, and bring forward the opportunities and risks leadership should be planning for now.
Leadership & Collaboration
Operate as a senior leader and trusted advisor across J.Crew, bringing clarity and structure to how the eCommerce organization works and decides. Build credibility through judgment rather than authority, influence peers and senior leaders without owning their functions, create alignment on priorities, and mobilize teams around the work that matters most.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience across business operations, strategy, consulting, or corporate finance roles, including experience supporting or leading a commercial business.
- Demonstrated ability to operate as both strategist and operator, moving from framing the question to running the analysis to driving the work to completion.
- Strong business and financial acumen, including fluency with a P&L and the ability to connect operational drivers to revenue, margin, and profitability outcomes.
- Highly analytical, with the judgment to interpret data critically, ask the sharper question, and turn someone else's analysis into a clear decision.
- Experience designing and running operating cadences such as business reviews, planning cycles, and goal-setting processes for a sizable organization.
- Proven ability to accelerate complex cross-functional initiatives, creating structure, accountability, and momentum where none existed.
- Exceptional influence and communication skills, with the executive presence to challenge thinking, build alignment, and earn trust across functions and levels.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities, with the judgment to know what deserves rigor and what simply needs to move.
- eCommerce, retail, or consumer experience preferred, with genuine curiosity about the customer and the business.
We welcome you to apply, even if you don't check all the boxes. Our passion is scouting life-long learners who are driven by curiosity, and who feel connected to our brands and share our desire to make an impact. We’re always seeking bright new talent who leverage their unique experiences to discover, grow and evolve with our teams.
