Tatum by Randstad has an IMMEDIATE need for an experienced, battle-tested Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead an immediate financial stabilization and turnaround for a $30M+ project-based manufacturing and commercial subcontracting firm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Backed by a regional private equity sponsor, the business is undergoing an operational reset to streamline cash flow, rebuild financial reporting, and restore profitability.
This is a hands-on, high-urgency executive role. The Interim CFO will establish immediate cash visibility, compress month-end reporting cycles, lead the upcoming fiscal year-end audit, and partner directly with the CEO and PE sponsor to navigate vendor and lender relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Cash Management & Forecasting: Take full ownership of a rolling 13-week cash flow model. Strategically manage working capital under investor capital parameters and active lender agreements.
- Vendor & AP Stabilization: Strategically manage trade payables and vendor communications to ensure supply chain continuity and uninterrupted job-site deliveries.
- Progress Billings & WIP Management: Oversee construction-style Percentage-of-Completion (PoC) billings, retainage collections, and project deposit tracking in coordination with operational and sales teams.
- Financial Reporting Acceleration: Streamline financial workflows and compress the month-end close cycle from a legacy timeframe down to institutional standards.
- Year-End Audit Leadership: Lead the upcoming annual audit with external auditors, reconciling inventory, project Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, and historical margin performance.
- Executive & Board Communication: Maintain transparent reporting with the CEO, private equity partners, lenders, and key external stakeholders.
Candidate Qualifications
- Industry Expertise: Direct financial leadership experience in Commercial Subcontracting, Construction, Architectural, or Heavy Project-Based Manufacturing.
- Technical Accounting Mastery: Deep expertise in Percentage-of-Completion (PoC) accounting, progress billings, retainage, and WIP schedule reconciliations.
- Turnaround & Distressed Experience: Proven track record stepping into high-pressure, cash-tight, or PE-backed turnaround environments navigating vendor and creditor dynamics.
- Advanced Modeling & Systems: Expert-level financial modeling skills (advanced Excel cash flow forecasting). Experience navigating legacy industry accounting software and manual reporting environments.
