Our client, a mission-driven non-profit organization, is seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee all finance, accounting, procurement, and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with the COO and Board of Directors, the CFO will provide strategic financial leadership while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the finance department.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with significant non-profit accounting and financial leadership experience, capable of managing both high-level strategy and operational execution within a complex, mission-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, procurement, financial reporting, and compliance.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, COO, and Board of Directors on financial performance, risk management, and long-term planning.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and board reporting packages.
- Oversee the annual budgeting process, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, non-profit accounting standards, grant requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, regulatory agencies, and other financial partners.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
- Oversee financial reporting related to grants, donations, restricted funds, and other funding sources.
- Lead procurement processes and ensure effective stewardship of organizational resources.
- Monitor organizational financial performance and recommend strategies to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
- Support organizational growth initiatives, strategic planning, and financial decision-making.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Directly manage and mentor a finance team of approximately 4-5 professionals.
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Comptroller and finance staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Partner cross-functionally with department leaders to support organizational goals and mission delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Prior non-profit industry experience required.
- Proven experience leading accounting and finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of Non-profit accounting principles
