What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

Post-secondary degree in accounting required, CPA designation strongly preferred
Extensive accounting experience with a minimum of 5 years of full cycle accounting experience, demonstrating strong technical skills
Evidence of a clear Police Information Check, within the last six months
Must have a valid driver’s license with class 07 automobile insurance coverage for business use (or pleasure with occasional business use) and a minimum of $2,000,000 in liability coverage

Knowledge & Skills

Experience with not-for-profit and charity restricted fund accounting
Knowledge of QBO accounting software and Avanti payroll software is an asset
Knowledge of the Salesforce platform is an asset
Experience preparing and managing multi-department budgets
Complete understanding of GST and Canadian payroll procedures
Ability to manage the integration of multiple software systems
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead the organization’s strategic direction related to all aspects of its finances
Excellent communication skills that facilitate working effectively with individuals from all levels of the organization
Highly organized team player with great attention to detail and accuracy
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Outlook

What does this role look like at the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta?

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and compliance. The CFO provides strategic financial leadership to support the YMCA’s mission and long-term sustainability, ensuring sound fiscal stewardship and alignment with organizational goals. This position also plays a critical role in risk management, financial planning, and guiding investment decisions, while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the finance function.
