The City Club of Cleveland is one of the nation's great free speech forums. A product of the Progressive Era and founded in 1912, it is one of the nation's oldest continuous independent free speech forums, renowned for the tradition of debate and discussion. For more than a hundred years, all speakers—from sitting presidents to community activists—have answered unfiltered, unrehearsed questions directly from the audience.

About the Role

Chief Financial Officer The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to and works closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the City Club team to build a sustainable, high-performing organization in service to the community. The CFO oversees, manages, and directs all aspects of fiscal responsibility, including accounting, budgeting, audit, investment, financial and office systems and human resource functions to ensure adherence to organizational strategies, GAAP and nonprofit guidelines.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Collaboration with the CEO, staff, and board to set the organization’s strategic direction, identify and evaluate growth opportunities, and design financial models to support their success
Resource allocation and alignment, ensuring all colleagues have what they need to be successful
Working with the CEO to cultivate a positive workplace culture built on gratitude, collaboration, efficiency, productivity, and professional development

Finance

Manage all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including revenue/expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, and contract/grant budgets
Oversee all financial systems and activities to attain all goals and objectives
Responsible for the annual budgeting process and continuous monitoring of revenues and expenses
Provide appropriate expertise and input regarding constituent management and database functionality
Create strategies for revenue growth and expense control
Oversee the annual audit and preparation of IRS Form 990
Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable according to organizational policies
Supervise all office equipment, network, contracting, purchases, and facility issues
Responsible for all Forum Foundation activities and investment management
Support the creation, implementation, and tracking of strategic plan
Oversee the financial aspects of programming
Undertake other responsibilities as requested

Human Resources

Manage administrative staff as necessary in furtherance of the foregoing responsibilities
Manage payroll, benefits, and leaves in accordance with policies

Board of Directors

Work closely with the President, Executive Committee, and Finance Committee to ensure fiscal management and to enable the fulfillment of the City Club mission
Provide all financial reports and analysis needed by the Board of Directors
With the CEO, assists in staff support of The City Club Forum Foundation Board

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field
Master's degree in business administration (MBA) or CPA preferred
At least 5 years of experience in financial management with proven track record as a successful leader for Non-Profit organizations
Proven experience as a CFO, Controller or in a similar senior finance position for Non-Profit organizations
Significant experience in core financial concepts including accounting, cash management, profitability analysis, revenue recognition, financial modeling, treasury, and forecasting

Required Skills

Excellent leadership skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Advanced financial acumen with the ability to analyze complex financial data
Demonstrated strategic planning capabilities
