Global energy owner & operator
Drive Australia's energy transition

Our client

Our client is the Australian investment arm of an internationally owned energy company and one of the world’s largest producers of low-carbon electricity. In Australia, the business invests across the entire electricity value chain: onshore and offshore wind, utility-scale solar, energy storage, transmission and grid connection, pumped hydro, and decarbonisation solutions for mining and industrial businesess. Backed by long-term, committed capital and the technical depth of a global group, it is now managing a large pipeline of capital-intensive projects and is seeking a Deputy CFO to join its Melbourne team.

The opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, you will be their right hand in steering the financial performance of the Australian business. You will own the financial and management reporting cycle end to end, delivering timely, insightful consolidated reporting packs for local leadership and global stakeholders, with variance analysis against budget and forecast and clear commentary on business and project performance. You will lead the annual budget and reforecasting processes, bringing greater insight and visibility to the Executive team. Once projects reach financial close, you will own their performance across the portfolio, tracking returns (EIRR, NPV), lender covenants and internal investment commitments. You will work closely with the investment and business development teams on transactions, investment papers, financial presentations and RFP responses, and manage relationships with partners and external advisers, including audit and tax. You will also oversee treasury and cash flow, strengthen internal controls and policies, and lead, mentor and grow a high-performing finance team as the business expands.

Required skills & experience

The successful candidate will be a CA or CPA qualified finance leader with a relevant degree and 10+ years’ experience in senior corporate finance roles, ideally within the infrastructure or energy sector or another capital-intensive industry. You will bring deep expertise in management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and project financial performance, along with a strong command of statutory and financial reporting. A hands-on leader, you will enjoy shaping strategy, while remaining close to the detail. You have excellent analytical skills and commercial judgement, and the communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. You also have the drive to build the internal controls, processes and teams needed to support the business as it continues to grow. Experience in global, matrixed organisations will be highly regarded.

This is an outstanding opportunity to play a central role in a business that is scaling quickly, with real influence over how its finance function develops and genuine scope for future career growth.
