POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Chief Financial Officer optimizes Columbia Farm Service’s operating and financial performance by providing leadership, direction, and oversight in achieving CFS’s Vision, Mission, and Values. The CFO works closely with their staff, executive and the CEO to achieve best in class execution in use of cash, expenses, and margin controls. The CFO will demonstrate strong leadership and efficacy in developing accurate and timely financial and operational reports. The CFO will need to be hands on enough starting out to properly build and improve upon CFS’s current and future cost accounting, reporting, cash management, as well as, be able to think and act strategically at the executive leadership level.
Essential Functions
1. Develop, lead, and monitor company’s budget and forecast process and presentation. Provide financial expertise, strategic and tactical decision support analysis. Perform analysis, advice, and reporting across all CFS’s departments, clients, and activities. Develop budgets, cost reports, cost standards, BOM’s and sustainable processes that enable the operating team to maximize efficiency(s).
2. Develop, prepare and report monthly financial statements and reports. Lead and support the development of cost and other important operational reports necessary to eliminate waste and maximize sustainable efficiency.
3. Develop a robust and easy to read daily cash management model and reporting process for the purpose of daily monitoring of the best use of cash and credit (especially important in a high-interest rate market).
4. Evaluate and recommend changes to chart of accounts for purposes of improving reporting and budgeting. Evaluate and improve General Ledger, Inventory Management systems, methodologies and processes to measure, account, report and improve the accuracy of information being reported.
5. Manage the accounting team and work with the senior management team to develop tools, techniques, and process to improve performance. More specifically, ensure the decision makers in
the company understand the financial and operational implications and impacts of their decisions and processes.
6. Provide over-all management of financial, purchasing and cost accounting processes and team(s) and processes including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, training, project management. Develop and support management of monthly budgets, reports, and corresponding needs.
7. Develop and support a rigorous ROI, payback and capital project analysis system and process. Analyze and train the operating team on capital asset utilization (primarily rolling stock), project management control methodologies and related controls.
8. Co-develop and prepare grower estimates, advances and pool closing processes and reports. Manage and report cash flow, grower account balances and all other reports associated with the financial performance of the company as directed by the company President.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Principles and practices of financial and manufacturing accounting.
- Principles and practices of financial forecasting and budgeting.
- Principles and practices of cash and credit utilization (cash management modeling).
- Principles and practices of purchasing, inventory control and reporting.
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of GAAP requirements.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulation(s).
ABILITY TO:

EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENCES AND TRAINING:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in leading an accounting and finance team.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Controller or equivalent.
- CPA license is preferred not required.
- Farming and/or food packaging experience preferred not required.
- Exhibit the energy, attitude, and humility to lead by example.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Constantly works in an office environment and occasionally has exposure to farming and industrial sites.
- Constantly deals with confidential information.
- Constantly works under time constraints or with business activities of a seasonal and cyclical nature.
- Occasionally travels, including overnight stays to off-site meetings and training sessions.

Location / Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
The office location is Quincy, WA. This is a full-time, year-round exempt position. Core business hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., some longer work hours may be required.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected for off-site meetings and training sessions. A valid Washington State driver’s license is required
