Chief Financial Officer - Private Equity Backed Organization - Boston, MA
Overview:
A growing holding company with a diverse portfolio of operating businesses across the construction, manufacturing, and service sectors is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead their growing organization. This position will oversee the company’s financial operations, lead integration efforts for newly acquired entities, and implement scalable systems and processes to support continued growth. The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on finance leader with strong technical expertise and a proven ability to drive operational improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Integration
- Lead the financial integration of newly acquired and existing operating businesses into the holding company structure.
- Standardize financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policies across entities.
- Partner with the CEO and operating company leaders to drive performance improvement and cost optimization.
- Provide financial insight and analysis to support business strategy, pricing, and capital allocation decisions.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee selection, implementation, and optimization of a modern ERP platform (upgrade or new system).
- Develop and implement scalable financial processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Improve data visibility and reporting capabilities across business units through enhanced analytics.
Financial Management
- Direct all accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and treasury management activities.
- Lead monthly and quarterly consolidation, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and audit standards.
Operational Finance & Cost Accounting
- Oversee project-based cost accounting, including cost-to-completion and WIP reporting.
- Develop consistent project margin and profitability analysis across business lines.
- Partner with operations to improve job costing, inventory management, and resource utilization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally in multi-entity, construction, manufacturing, or service-based environments.
- Proven experience leading ERP implementations or upgrades (e.g., NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or similar).
- Strong understanding of cost-to-completion and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Demonstrated success in financial integration of acquired companies or subsidiaries.
- Hands-on leader with excellent analytical, communication, and change management skills.
