JOB SUMMARY:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the strategic financial management, strategy, oversight, and execution of financial initiatives. This role ensures the organization's financial health, compliance, and sustainability by leading budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, bank relationships, audit preparation, and grant management in collaboration with other departments.
The Chief Financial Officer will direct and oversee the financial activities of the corporation, direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth.
They will collaborate with the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to make decisions regarding the company's financial strategy and operations. The candidate will possess a strong background in finance and management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Monitor financial performance, provide insights, and recommend actions to leadership.
- Ensure financial policies and procedures align with best practices and compliance requirements.
Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Oversee and finalize month-end and quarterly close processes.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and general ledger accounts.
- Lead the preparation and review of financial statements and reports.
Audit & Compliance
- Oversee annual audit preparation and serve as the key liaison with auditors.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and funding requirements.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Develop, review, and finalize the annual budget, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Provide financial forecasting and scenario analysis to support decision-making.
Grants & Funding Management
- Oversee grant financial management in collaboration with the development team.
- Ensure proper tracking, reporting, and compliance with grant requirements.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring strong performance and alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership on financial planning and operational decisions.
- Provide financial insights to stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive financial management experience, including leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance.
- Experience in nonprofit finance and grant management preferred.
- Proficiency in financial software (QuickBooks, Intacct, FundEZ, etc.) and Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders effectively.
