Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on a consulting basis to provide strategic financial leadership, strengthen fiscal infrastructure, and ensure alignment between financial planning and organizational goals. The CFO will oversee financial strategy, compliance, reporting, and risk management, supporting both the executive team and board of directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide financial leadership, strategic analysis, and risk assessment to guide executive decision-making.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning in coordination with leadership and program teams.
- Review and refine internal financial controls, accounting procedures, and compliance practices to support organizational sustainability.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Executive Director and Board.
- Monitor grant and contract budgets to ensure compliance and reporting requirements are met.
- Liaise with auditors, investment advisors, insurance brokers, and legal counsel as needed.
- Ensure timely filings of IRS Form 990 and other regulatory compliance documents.
- Support development of financial models to assess program or organizational growth, funding opportunities, or major investments.
- Supervise or support internal finance staff and/or outsourced accounting vendors as applicable.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including CFO or Controller roles (nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, restricted/unrestricted funds, and financial compliance.
- Demonstrated experience producing board-facing financial reports and dashboards.
- Ability to work collaboratively and translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
- CPA, MBA, or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
Engagement Details
- Status: Consultant / 1099 Contractor
- Estimated Level of Effort: Approximately 15 - 25 hours per month. Hours may fluctuate based on budgeting cycles, audits, or special projects.
- Engagement Term: Initial contract for Immediately to 6/1/2026, with the potential for renewal based on performance and organizational needs.
- Location: Remote, with availability for virtual meetings with the Executive Director, staff, and Board Finance Committee.
- Budget: $2,000–$4,000 per month, inclusive of all fees, overhead, and expenses. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience and proposed scope of services.
- Payment Terms: Monthly invoice based on agreed-upon deliverables or time worked.
