IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY
Interim Chief Financial Officer
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Greater Toronto Area
Duration: 3-6 months
Our client, a large and well-respected community hospital, is seeking an accomplished professional to provide strategic financial leadership and objective insights during a period of transition. The hospital is navigating a major capital redevelopment program, undergoing a comprehensive audit, and is in the midst of a complex budgeting process. The successful candidate will steer the finance team, deliver actionable recommendations, and ensure the organization’s financial health and sustainability.
Key Accountabilities:
Objective Financial Insights & Advisory
- Provide the executive team and board with clear, data-driven analysis and objective recommendations to inform strategic decisions.
- Assess financial risks and opportunities, offering independent perspectives on operational and capital priorities.
- Benchmark hospital financial performance against industry standards and best practices.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Build financial acumen across the organization through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Audit & Compliance
- Oversee the successful completion of the hospital’s audit, ensuring compliance with all regulatory, reporting, and internal control requirements.
- Address audit findings with transparency and implement corrective actions.
Capital Redevelopment Program
- Provide financial oversight and strategic guidance for the hospital’s capital redevelopment initiatives.
- Monitor project budgets, cashflow, and financial risks, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and timelines.
Cashflow & Budget Management
- Proactively manage cashflow, anticipating and mitigating risks associated with capital projects and operational pressures.
- Finalize and oversee the annual budget process, balancing competing priorities and ensuring financial sustainability.
- Identify and implement strategies to achieve significant cost reduction across hospital operations, safeguarding quality of care and reputation.
Traditional Responsibilities
- Oversee financial planning, analysis, and reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage treasury, investments, and debt, optimizing the hospital’s financial position.
- Ensure robust internal controls and risk management frameworks are in place.
- Lead financial negotiations with vendors, partners, and funding agencies.
- Support revenue cycle management and reimbursement optimization.
- Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and procurement functions.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate financial performance, risks, and opportunities clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to align financial goals with organizational strategy.
Competencies and Requirements:
- 10+ years in senior financial leadership roles, preferably in healthcare or public sector.
- Experience managing large teams and complex projects.
- Demonstrated success in financial turnaround, cost optimization, and audit management.
- CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred.
- Strategic financial leadership and objective advisory skills.
- Expertise in audit, compliance, and financial reporting.
- Advanced cashflow and budget management capabilities.
- Strong project management skills, especially in capital redevelopment.
- Proven ability to drive cost reduction and operational efficiency.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
