Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Chicago (4 days in office, WFH on Fridays)
Compensation: $260,000-290,000k + bonus + profit sharing

A professional services firm in the design and development space is seeking a hands‑on, strategic, and operational Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead financial management for a growing and increasingly complex organization. This is a full‑time on‑site leadership role reporting directly to the CEO. The ideal candidate is a dynamic finance executive capable of operating at both the strategic and tactical levels, building scalable systems, improving operational performance, and partnering across the business to drive profitability and long‑term growth.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team to define financial strategy and guide long‑term growth initiatives.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain financial models, forecasts, and analytics to support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Provide clear, actionable insights into company performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Evaluate pricing strategies and cost structures to maximize organizational profitability.
- Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Manage preparation of financial statements in accordance with accounting guidance from the company’s external accounting firm.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with audit, tax, and regulatory requirements.
- Streamline, modernize, and automate accounting processes to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Partner closely with department heads on budgeting, project profitability, and resource allocation planning.
- Establish KPIs, dashboards, and management reporting to improve financial visibility.
- Oversee cash flow management, forecasting, liquidity planning, and capital optimization.
- Lead and support system integration initiatives across accounting, CRM, and project management platforms.
- Build, mentor, and develop a small but high‑performing finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a strategic business partner across all departments, helping non‑financial leaders understand financial impact and outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred).
- 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 3+ years in a senior leadership role within a small or mid‑sized organization.
- Proven ability to operate effectively at both the strategic and tactical levels.
- Experience implementing or managing ERP/accounting systems.
- Strong GAAP knowledge and experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and cash management.
