About Musana Musana builds and operates integrated, self-sustaining community ecosystems in Uganda that include schools, hospitals, women’s vocational/business training centers, and local enterprises like hotels and restaurants. Role OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a strategic finance partner to our global leadership team during this period of rapid growth and organizational transition. The Fractional CFO will provide high-level financial strategy, oversight, and structure, ensuring Musana’s finances are investment-ready, transparent, and aligned with our mission.
This role is ideal for a finance leader with both nonprofit and social enterprise experience, comfortable bridging philanthropic capital, impact investment, and enterprise financials.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Finance & Capital Structure
- Advise on optimal capital structure (philanthropic, concessional debt, blended finance, etc.) to fund Musana’s $42M global expansion.
- Support fundraising by preparing financial models, investor/funder decks, and ROI/IRR projections.
- Ensure clarity between enterprise financials (self-sustaining businesses) and outreach/charitable activities.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Build and refine long-term financial models for community replication, including enterprise sustainability targets, depreciation, reserves, and cash flow.
- Partner with leadership to evaluate new opportunities (mergers, partnerships, expansion into new geographies).
- Develop scenario planning and sensitivity analyses.
Accounting & Compliance Oversight
- Do consolidation of financials across multiple entities (Uganda, U.S., U.K., other expansion countries).
- Strengthen policies and internal controls to ensure compliance with international nonprofit, tax, and audit standards.
- Advise on entity structuring, inter-company transactions, and global governance.
Board & Stakeholder Reporting
- Provide high-quality reporting and dashboards to the Global Board, funders, and investors.
- Translate financials into compelling narratives for external stakeholders.
- Mentor and strengthen in-country finance teams.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, ideally with exposure to both nonprofit and enterprise models.
- Track record of raising and managing capital across philanthropy, debt, and investment.
- Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting, international tax compliance, and consolidation across multiple entities.
- Strong strategic planning and financial modeling skills.
- Ability to communicate complex financials simply and persuasively.
- Passion for Musana’s mission; experience in global development or emerging markets preferred.
