About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead Akubra’s financial stewardship and ensure long-term sustainability. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will combine strategic financial leadership with practical involvement in day-to-day financial management, operational decision-making, and continuous improvement across the business.
What you will do
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement Akubra’s financial strategy aligned with business objectives and brand values.
- Provide data-driven insights to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and growth initiatives.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO, SLT, and Board, translating financial information into actionable recommendations.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and working capital management.
- Drive monthly reporting, variance analysis, and performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
Operational & Commercial Support
- Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, and sales teams to improve cost control, margins, and pricing.
- Analyse manufacturing costs, capex proposals, and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Support commercial negotiations with suppliers and customers.
Risk, Governance & Controls
- Maintain strong financial controls and governance frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with financial, tax, and employment obligations.
- Prepare Board papers and support governance processes.
People & Culture
- Lead and mentor a small finance team while remaining hands-on.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable finance function that supports the broader business.
- Champion Akubra’s values and commitment to Australian manufacturing.
About you
- Proven CFO or senior finance leadership experience, ideally in manufacturing, consumer goods, or mid-sized businesses.
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and detailed levels with a pragmatic, hands-on approach.
- Strong commercial and operational mindset with collaborative leadership style.
- Experience working with Boards and owners in a values-driven or privately held environment.
