About the Role:
We are not looking for a bookkeeper but a seasoned financial expert who has already mastered finance, accounting, and budgeting. We are looking for a curious, interested and entrepreneurial partner who has experience with mergers & acquisitions can rank investment opportunities. We desire a valued partner who can calculate the weighted average cost of capital, the present value of future cash flows, internal rate of return, cap rate and make strategic decisions on highest and best use of capital.
Reporting to the President and working closely with the Board, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position with TKEDC is a key strategic leader within the senior management team. This role is not one that turns over every six months and only comes along once in a generation. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial strategy, planning, reporting, and the performance metrics of all companies under the TKEDC umbrella. The position will work closely with multiple stakeholders including Tsay Keh Nation to ensure that the organization maintains its financial health, supports its mission and drives long-term growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
· Financial Leadership & Strategy:
o Develop and execute financial strategies to support the organization’s long-term objectives and mission.
o Provide insightful and timely financial analysis and advice to the President and Board.
o Establish financial goals, policies and procedures to ensure effective management and accountability of the organization’s resources.
· Budgeting & Financial Planning:
o Oversee the preparation and implementation of annual budgets and budget planning process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
o Regularly evaluate financial performance and adjust forecasts and identify budget limitations as necessary.
o Monitor cashflow, ensure adequate reserves, and maintain financial sustainability.
· Financial Reporting & Compliance:
o Ensure all entities follow finance policies.
o Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and other required documents for internal and external stakeholders.
o Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including accounting standards, tax filings, and grant compliance.
o Manage audits and implement best practices in financial reporting and control.
· Resource Allocation & Fundraising Support:
o Collaborate with the fundraising teams/consultants to develop financial models for grants, investments, and funding opportunities.
o Assist in the preparation of financial materials for fundraising, including proposals, budgets, and impact reports.
o Manage investor and donor relations to ensure transparency and accountability in financial reporting.
· Risk Management & Investment:
o Develop and implement risk management strategies to safeguard organizational assets.
o Oversee investment strategies, ensuring they align with the organization’s goals and risk tolerance.
o Establish insurance and emergency operations continuity plans.
o Report on for-profit business activity risks and mitigation updates.
o Utilize and maintain the annual risk assessment matrix.
· Team Leadership & Development:
o Lead and mentor the finance teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, efficiency, and professional growth.
o Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications
· Must be a CPA in good standing, MBA preferred
· Minimum of 15 years progressive experience in financial management, including at least 10 years in a senior leadership role, ideally within a for-profit, economic development, or public sector environment.
· Strong understanding of for-profit financials, tax regulations, indigenous economic development reporting structures and funding sources.
· Proven track record of financial planning, budgeting and reporting.
· Experience with mergers & acquisitions, financing alternatives and options, ranking investment opportunities.
· Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence both internal and external stakeholders.
· Demonstrated experience in strategic thinking and the ability to balance long-term goals with short-term financial needs.
· Experience with OpEx and CapEx, treasury, and cashflow reporting.
· Expertise in managing investment portfolios and risk management strategies.
