The company has established a strong market presence and has delivered consistent, sustained growth over the past six years. Now operating in scale up mode, the business is focused on strengthening its financial foundations, supporting continued growth and ensuring it is well positioned for its next phase of development.
The Role
The Chief Financial Officer will be a key partner to the founders, executive leadership team and Board, providing strategic financial leadership and commercial insight across the business. The role will be responsible for designing, building and scaling the finance function in line with the needs of a growing healthtech organisation, while maintaining a pragmatic, hands on approach.
This is a senior, strategically focused CFO role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with founders and balancing day to day financial leadership with longer term planning, governance and decision support.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Executive Partnership
- Act as a trusted financial and commercial advisor to the founders, executive leadership team and Board
- Play a key role in shaping and executing the company’s strategy
- Provide insight into market dynamics, performance trends and strategic initiatives
- Support the Board’s strategic planning process with clear financial analysis and decision support
- Add depth and balance to the executive leadership team and support the founders across broader business activities as required
Finance Function Design and Leadership
- Design, build and manage the finance function across people, process and systems
- Establish robust but practical financial governance, controls, policies and procedures
- Build, lead and develop a high performing finance team over time
- Recruit, mentor and develop finance staff with a strong focus on capability, accountability and culture
Financial Planning, Reporting and Insight
- Own monthly financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
- Develop and maintain three to five year financial plans aligned to the company’s strategic direction
- Prepare Board papers and present financial results, insights and performance analysis
- Assess performance against budget and longer term objectives, identifying risks and opportunities
- Improve the quality, clarity and usefulness of financial and operational reporting
Cash Flow, Treasury and Capital Management
- Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity and working capital management
- Ensure appropriate treasury facilities, controls and financing arrangements are in place
- Manage banking relationships, borrowing arrangements and treasury activities
- Oversee capital investment and asset management to support disciplined growth
- Proactively identify and manage potential liquidity or working capital risks
Governance, Compliance and Risk
- Oversee statutory financial reporting and compliance with Australian accounting standards
- Manage external audit relationships and statutory obligations
- Ensure the business maintains a fit for purpose risk management framework
- Oversee tax obligations to ensure the company remains well positioned and compliant
- Design and implement finance related policies and procedures aligned to the company’s stage and complexity
Board, Investor and External Stakeholder Support
- Prepare financial materials, analysis and briefings for the Board, shareholders and external stakeholders
- Support the Board in managing relationships with investors, advisors and financial partners
- Assist with the selection and engagement of external advisors, including auditors, legal and tax advisors
- Provide financial analysis and support for longer term strategic initiatives, including expansion, partnerships or potential corporate transactions
Commercial and Operational Support
- Provide commercial input into pricing strategy, procurement and key supplier negotiations
- Support supply chain and procurement initiatives with strong financial discipline
- Work closely with the founders and leadership team to support sustainable unit economics and operational performance
Ideal Candidate
- Over 10 years’ experience with some significant time in senior finance leadership roles
- Proven experience within startup and scale up environments
- Background in technology led businesses, preferably tech consumer
- Prior training in investment banking or Big 4 professional services
- Strong, confident Board level communicator
- Able to translate complex financial information into clear, commercial insight
- Pragmatic and thoughtful leadership style
- Brings structure and rigour without unnecessary bureaucracy
- Experience within healthtech, consumer healthcare or similarly regulated environments advantageous
