POSITION: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Non-Profit

Robert Half is partnering with a valued nonprofit client just outside of Hartford, CT, to identify an experienced Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team. This is a high-impact opportunity for a hands-on financial leader who is passionate about serving the local community and supporting a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic and operational financial leadership across accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting functions
Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards
Lead grant accounting and compliance, including extensive reporting to the State of Connecticut
Prepare and present financial results, trends, and strategic insights to the Board of Directors and executive leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting operations
Support long-term financial planning, sustainability initiatives, and organizational growth
Oversee or partner closely with Human Resources functions; prior HR oversight experience is a strong plus
Utilize and optimize financial systems
Manage relationship with external CPA firm and ensure compliance with annual audit
Prepare annual tax filings
Manage all cash and banking relationships and ensure covenant compliance

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required (CPA and/or MBA preferred)
15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience within a nonprofit environment
Strong background in grant accounting and state funding compliance, particularly within Connecticut
Proven experience presenting financial information to a Board of Directors
Systems savvy with experience working in complex fund accounting software - Sage MIP preferred
Demonstrated leadership ability with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset
Genuine passion for community service and nonprofit mission-driven work
