The
Vice President, Business Operations oversees strategy and planning to align business operations with the business unit's/department’s goals and objectives. Oversees the implementation of projects and process improvement opportunities and creates plans for implementation. Develops and manages budgets and resource allocations for department activities. Collaborates with senior management to identify opportunities and implement long-term goals and strategic plans to position the organization for success.
Responsibilities
- Leads business planning. Creates, establishes, communicates, and oversees implementation of policies, practices, standards, and other measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams on strategic business objectives. Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and attain department goals while providing expertise, counsel and guidance on strategic and operational management.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to address challenges and to improve and streamline organizational efficiency and optimal use of resources and materials. Identifies trends and resolves systemic issues across functions and ensures strong communication within a matrixed environment.
- Conducts and manages outcomes of various studies that include analyzing, reviewing, forecasting, trending, and presenting information for operational and business improvement. Develops and implements effective/strategic end-to-end business solutions through research and analysis of data and business processes and best practices.
- Ensures that departmental/business unit decisions and project plans such as those for staffing, development and organization are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision.
- Oversees the quarterly and annual budgeting process by understanding business priorities and managing the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year- end operating budgets and other financial statements/reports for management.
- Manages and coaches’ team, including oversight of work product, performance management, recognition, and compensation (ongoing and annual), as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA, MSW, JD, MPA/MPP, MPH, or PhD) and 10+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector or relevant for‑profit fields
- 5+ years in senior leadership within a mission-driven organization
- Proven experience in fundraising, financial planning, and financial analysis
- Demonstrated ability in nonprofit strategy development and business planning
- Experience with applied research, evaluation, and data analysis
Preferred
- Experience working with older adults, gerontology, or geriatrics
- Expertise with public interest technology
- Experience with PR, marketing, public policy and thought leadership

Hybrid Work Environment
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
