Job Description:
As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer will report to the CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company. The family office manages a Diversified Investment Portfolio (DIP) with significant commercial and Retail Real Estate Holdings (RREH), as well as private equity and other investment assets.
The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing productivity, providing support information for deal analysis and negotiations, investor relationships and partnership compliance, and private and institutional financing.
The CFO will operate as a peer to the Chief Investment Officer, collaborating closely to oversee investment activity and portfolio strategy. The ideal candidate will also bring deep real estate experience at both the transactional and portfolio level, with the ability to evaluate and qualify real estate opportunities proposed by the deal team. In addition, the CFO will lead the strategic management of the real estate asset category to optimize portfolio structure, performance, and long-term value.
Responsibilities:
- Maximize the use of corporate assets so that the highest possible returns to the family office are achieved. The CFO has direct authority over all financial, accounting, administrative, and business functions for the company and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
- Provide strategic oversight of the real estate portfolio, including deal evaluation, transaction structuring, due diligence, and performance monitoring.
- Supervise and/or prepare all financial statements and auditing in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and related management information.
- Supervise and/or perform activities related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger.
- Establish and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity and policy compliance of all accounting processes and data generation, both in DIP and RREH
- Perform all cost accounting functions and consider and suggest improvements for costing and pricing.
- Preparation of periodic financial reporting packages to include balance sheet, income statement, cost variances, budget, cash flow forecast, financial forecast, and breakeven analysis.
- Evaluate the impact of long-range planning, new programs/strategies, regulatory actions, and proposed real estate transactions.
- Full knowledge of taxable income for DIP, RREH and all other investments.
- Provide leadership in the development and continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
- Review and implement budgeting procedures. Monitor and report on any significant budget variances. Make recommendations for required corrective actions.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with outside accounting firms, consultants, bankers and real estate partners for DIP and RREH
- Monitor, and audit if necessary, all business, investment, and financial activity.
- Supervise and/or conduct HR and employee relations for the company.
Requirements:
- Ten years’ proven experience as CFO, finance officer or relevant role, preferably within a real estate investment, development, or family office environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in DIP as well as real estate transaction analysis and portfolio management.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and oversee staff at remote locations.
- Self-driven with strong problem-solving and creative skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- Advanced financial accounting, cost accounting, reporting, budgeting, tax management, policies and procedures, and analytical review skills.
- Strong administrative leadership skills with a collaborative management style.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products; knowledge of Yardi accounting system preferred.
- CPA (Preferred)
