A long-standing, fast-growing real estate firm specializing in commercial properties is seeking a highly driven and detail-oriented CFO to lead the accounting and financial operations. This is an in-office leadership role for someone who wants to grow, take ownership, and build a high-performing finance function.
Position Overview
The CFO will oversee all accounting, tax, reporting, and financial management activities for a diverse real estate portfolio. This individual will manage day-to-day accounting, ensure accurate books and reconciliations, supervise a small team (1–2 people, with potential outsourced accounting resources), and work closely with executive leadership on financial strategy. The ideal candidate is smart, aggressive, hands-on, and excited about long-term growth within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, monthly close, and financial statement preparation
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a small accounting team (internal + outsourced resources)
- Ensure compliance with tax requirements; coordinate with external tax professionals as needed
- Produce accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Build and optimize financial processes, internal controls, and reporting structures
- Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and cash flow management
- Maintain accurate accounting for commercial real estate assets, leases, and property-level reporting
- Implement best practices around accounting systems, automation, and workflows
- Manage MRI Software; maintain strong Excel-based reporting and analysis
- Handle ad hoc analysis and projects, including acquisitions, due diligence, and financial modeling
- Ensure all financial records are audit-ready and compliant with GAAP
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or progress toward CPA a plus)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; real estate/commercial property experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of tax, real estate accounting, and financial reporting
- Hands-on experience doing the books, reconciliations, and managing full-cycle accounting
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience (managing 1–2 people, including outsourced teams)
- Proficiency in MRI Software (required or willing to learn quickly) and advanced Excel skills
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and able to work with urgency in a fast-paced environment

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with senior executives
